William Leach Obituary

William Lowen Leach
02/14/1933 - 08/22/2024
William Lowen Leach
February 14, 1933-August 22, 2024
Born in Henderson, Texas, Bill was the second son of Mabel Gregory and Phillip Leach.
He graduated from Henderson High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He had offers to play baseball for Sam Houston State, Baylor, and a professional farm team. He instead chose to walk on at the University of Texas where he played baseball his freshman year.
He graduated with a business degree from the University of Texas in 1955 and began working for Humble Oil Company-later to become Exxon Mobil. He logged 37 years with the company before taking early retirement in 1992.
While working on the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas, he met his beautiful wife, Mary Ann Koontz. She too was a graduate of the University of Texas and worked for Humble Oil in the Kingsville office as a secretary. They married on July 20th, 1963. They were married 61 years, living first in Kingsville, then Corpus Christi, and finally settling in Houston, Texas in 1967, where they raised their four children-Jeff, Cheryl, Karen, and Jason.
Bill was active in Spring Woods United Methodist Church as well as the Inverness Forest Neighborhood Community. He was also a beloved little league football and baseball coach who used the lessons of hard work and sportsmanship to develop life skills that his players could use throughout their lives.
Bill was preceded in death by his older brother, James, and younger sister, Melba. He is survived by wife Mary Ann and four children: Jeff and wife Jill, Cheryl and husband Chris Buskirk, Karen Leach & Eric Lacey, Jason and wife Leslie. Grandchildren: Brandon and fiancé Gina, Blake and wife Barbara, Courtney and husband Drew, David, Jonathan, Jeremy and wife Cat, Jentry, Jessie, and Evie. Great grandchildren: Nora, and Lydia. Half siblings: Robert, Don, Tami, and Geneva. Beloved cousin: Thurman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Spring Woods United Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77090 on September 27, 2024 at 11:00 am.
