William Frederick Pohl, Jr., 93, of Houston, Texas, died November 16, 2024. Born September 3, 1931, in Butler, PA to Dr. William F. Pohl, Sr. And Mildred McGrody Pohl.
Bill is survived by his wife, Garland Debner Pohl; daughters, Heather Pohl and Allison Pohl (Patrick Brogan); grandsons, Jack (Kassidy) and Carrick Brogan; sister-in-law, Marilyn Debner Todd and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son, William F. Pohl, III; his parents, and siblings, Dr. Ruth Von Pohl and Ralph Pohl.
While in college, as a member of the National Guard he was called to active duty with the US Army, Anti Aircraft Artillery unit and sent to Japan during the Korean War with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon discharge from the Army he came to Texas to attend The University of Houston, School of Technology. After finishing school he worked in construction design for several companies: Austin Steel Company, John Brown and National Oilwell. He reluctantly retired at the age of 83.
Bill met Garland Debner on a blind date. They wed in 1960 and were married for 63 years. Bill's hobbies included fishing, refinishing furniture, caning chairs and there was nothing he couldn't repair. He was an avid reader of Civil War history. He was especially proud of his grandsons.
Visitation Thursday, November 21st at Earthman-Bellaire, 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 22nd at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd., Houston, Texas at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Thomas High School, Tuition Assistance, 4500 Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77007.
