William Roe Obituary

William Dale Roe After a valiant battle with cancer, William Dale "Bill" Roe passed away on July 2, 2012, at home. A native Oklahoman, Bill was born on September 23, 1944. He lived life to its fullest. A born leader, Bill was elected president of his high school class three years in a row, followed by election as president of his SAE pledge class at The University of Oklahoma and of the fraternity his senior year. Upon graduation, he and Peggy Ratcliffe began their 45-year marriage. After moving to Houston in 1969, Bill either became president or treasurer of every volunteer organization to which he belonged. Bill put himself through college by working and winning scholarships. After graduating from OU, he earned an MPA from The University of Texas and became a CPA. His accounting acumen led him to public accounting, then commercial real estate, and ultimately to forming William D. Roe & Co. and managing Tanglewood Homeowners Association. A dedicated family man, Bill prized his children's education and never missed opportunities to enrich their lives. He adored his children, their spouses, and his five grandchildren. His involvement in their lives was of the utmost importance to him. Faith was also a focus in Bill's life, and he exemplified his faith through his integrity, honesty, and trust in the Lord, making him the man of character whom others respected and admired.
Predeceased by his parents Betty and John Roe, Bill is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ratcliffe Roe; his children William Price Roe, wife Peggy, and sons Rush and Rex; Haise Roe Borgmann, husband Kevin, and children Avery, Walker, and Leighton; and Richard Taylor Roe; brother Harvie Roe and family; and valued sisters- and brothers-in-law, treasured nieces and nephews, and a legion of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. River Oaks Breakfast Club members will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant House Texas, 1111 Lovett Blvd., Houston, TX 77006; St. Luke's United Methodist Church Foundation, P.O. Box 22013, Houston, TX 77227; or The William D. Roe PLC Scholarship, 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019.

Peggy, Price, Haise and Taylor,
Bill Roe was one of my heroes—a man of high moral character who managed to live his values and beliefs every day. I am sure you are finding that his absence is hard to endure. But I know you take great pride in the standard and example he set. You can be assured that the Lord has put him to work in His kingdom and Bill is delivering quality service there just as he did on earth. I am praying that the Lord will give each of you the strength to carry on in accordance with the standard that Bill established.

Peggy,

I am heartsick - we all are up in NYC. I just learned of Bill's passing. He was a beautiful, thoughtful committed champion for our kids. I recall many conversations with him in which he described how blessed he was by God to have you and the kids and the grandkids, and he hoped our Covenant House kids could have that same sense of family. And then he and you put your convictions to work and made the world a better place for kids. I hope the beautiful, street kids of the world who have died greet our friend at the gates of Heaven and welcome him home. With prayers and love for all the Roes, Kevin Ryan, Covenant House

Peggy and Price:

For all of us in Troop 55 who knew Bill, please know that our prayers are with you and your entire family during this time of sorrow. Bill was such a positive and giving spirit and helped and inspired so many, that it is hard to think about not having him with us. Knowing that he passed on so much of himself and his approach to life and kindness to others to his children is a blessing.

For many years Bill and I would share stories and strategies on how to manage our neighborhoods. He was exceptionally loyal and dedicated even during his battle on providing the best service available to Tanglewood as well as trying to provide for his succession. I will miss him a great deal. My sincere condolences to the family.
