Barry, Fred

Fred Barry, age 73, died in his home in Austin, Texas on September 28th with family and his doggies by his side.

Fred worked as a radio journalist for 40+ years. For over 30 years, he was employed by WOMT radio in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. While working for radio stations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, Fred reported on many political legends including: Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, Lee Dreyfus and Tommy Thompson. Over his career in journalism, Fred won many awards from the Associated Press, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, NBNA and more.

Fred retired in 2008, and set out on a five year RV adventure with his wife, Nancy. He continued throughout his life to be an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan.

Fred is survived by: wife of 51 years Nancy, son Glen and daughter Julie of New York City, son Dan of Austin Texas and granddaughter Talita of Hilo, Hawaii - And, his two beloved doggies, Leo and Fletcher.

The Barry family would like to thank all of the family and friends who supported us through Fred's illness the past several years.

My deepest condolences to Fred's family. As a young reporter for the Valders Journal, I spent many hours sitting next to him at government meetings, trials and other events. I learned the craft just by watching him and got a lot of support and laughs, too. I will always remember him fondly.
