Junis "June" Mancel, 85, Shawano, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, in Shawano. Born on Aug. 5, 1926, in the Town of Waukechon, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Splittgerber) Beyer. On May 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to John W. Mancel at the St. John's Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine. After marriage the couple lived in Shawano, where they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Bonnie. June worked at restaurants, the bakery and the Campbell's Store in the Shawano area. In October of 1969, the couple moved to Two Rivers. While living there, they were members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where June was active with the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, Bible Study, Prayer Chain, Vacation Bible School, and the Quilting Group. She also held several offices during that time. In June of 1989, the couple moved back to the Shawano area and once again became members of the St. John's Lutheran church in Belle Plaine, where June was active in Ladies Aid, LWML and Bible Study. She also worked at The Thrift Store and as a greeter at Wal-Mart. June's greatest joy in life was caring for her beloved grandchildren. She also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and caring for others.
June is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Marie (Ronald) Luepke, Cecil; two grandchildren, Megan Mary Anna Luepke, Andrew John Wallace Luepke; two sisters-in-law, Marion Beyer, Shawano; Audrey Hannamann, Appleton; a brother-in-law, Clyde Mancel, Manitowoc; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
June was preceded in death by her husband, John on Sept. 20, 2001; a granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Luepke; her parents; sisters, Leona Hesse, Esther LaRose, Lillian Luckow, Margaret Balke, Amanda Seehafer; and brothers, Clarence, Elmer, Edward, Henry, Herbert and Wallace Beyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the St. John Lutheran Church in the Town of Belle Plaine, with the Rev. Roland Golz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday after 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting with the arrangements.
