Mark Sauer Obituary

Mark H Sauer, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on September 14, 2022. He was born November 8, 1944, in Medford, WI, to Leo and Clara (Poehnlein) Sauer. Mark was one of eight children whose formative years were spent living on a Wisconsin dairy farm south of Marshfield.

Mark attended elementary school at Cameron Pride and Sacred Heart School, then attended Columbus High School for several years before graduating from Marshfield Senior High.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Swensen on October 16, 1965, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt.

He joined the Wisconsin National Guard during the Vietnam War, serving when called upon. Mark enjoyed being outside – hunting, fishing, bird-watching, or tending to his blueberries, apple trees, and grapes.

Mark is survived by two daughters, Janet Geldernick, Darla (Ronald) Seehafer, and a son Brian Sauer, all of Marshfield; six grandchildren, Melissa (Slade) Teresinski, David Geldernick, and Taylor Geldernick; Jake (Taylor) Seehafer, Eric (Ellie) Seehafer, and Lauren Seehafer; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Violet Teresinski.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn; parents Leo and Clara; and siblings Joyce Wright, Ken Sauer, Carol Raab, Deanne Hawley, Ruth Cherney, Leon Sauer, and Kathy Olsen.

In keeping with Mark's wishes, no funeral or memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the Mark & Carolyn Sauer Memorial Scholarship through Columbus Catholic High School, where the two first met.

Mark's family would like to thank Jean Volm of Interim Hospice & Palliative Care and the care team of St. Croix Hospice for their assistance over these last few weeks. A very special thank you to Mark's cousin Joann Werner for her outstanding guidance, compassion and care up to the very end.
