Alfred Pinther Obituary

Alfred Pinther
8/26/1937 - 7/29/2016
Memorial and Interment Services for Alfred 'Al' Robert Pinther of Henderson, Nevada will be held at the Lutheran Community Church of Las Vegas August 26, 2016. Alfred passed away and returned to His Saviour's side July 29, 2016 at St. Rose de Lima Hospital in Henderson, one month shy of his 79th birthday. He was born on August 26, 1937 in the Mercy Hospital, Nampa, Idaho. His parents are the late Alfred Arno Pinther and Irene Jane Shannon Pinther. He lived with his family (including twin sister, Alfreda) at 1103 10th Ave. S. in Nampa until he moved to Las Vegas in 1962 after graduating from Nampa High School in 1955 and Boise Junior College in 1959. He began work as a sheet metal worker and worked on building many of the casinos in and around Las Vegas. He also worked as a welder on the Alaskan pipeline project. He was a member of the Union Local 88 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Lutheran Community Church of Las Vegas. Al was a collector and one of his hobbies in past years was collecting cookie jars. He became widely known after being featured on The Antique Road Show as 'the cookie jar man' having a collection of over 2,000 cookie jars. In his later years he started raising pet turkeys and getting female turkeys to brood baby chickens.
Al was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and was a friend to all who knew him. Al was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Ernest Curt Pinther, and stepdaughter Dawn Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 30 years, his previous wife Jo Pinther of Gardnerville and their two children and their wives: Timothy (Cathy) Pinther of Gardnerville and Paul (Alissa) Pinther of Boise, Idaho; his twin sister Alfreda (Jim) Batdorff of Coos Bay, Oregon and sister Joan Pinther Shows of Springfield, Virginia; stepson Russell (Elizabeth) Kruse of Saundertown, Rhode Island; and stepdaughters Christa Valine and Margaret Orlando of Las Vegas. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In light of the brightness Alfred brought to so many lives, the family requests everyone dress in bright color attire for the memorial service which will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at the Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. Interment will be made in Palm Valley View Memorial Park in Las Vegas. The family requests donations be made in memory of Alfred Pinther to Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89121-7337; the American Cancer Society; or Canyon County Historical Society, P.O. Box 595, Nampa, ID 83653.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1,2) With heartfelt sympathy.

My heart and prayers go out to Carolyn and her family for this loss. I know that he will be missed but may his soul RIP. He was the best reflexologist - remembering the Layne days.
