Allen B. Waddell

1930 - 2008

Allen B. Waddell passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the age of 77. Allen was born on July 30, 1930, to James B. and Wanda Waddell in Detroit, Mich. As a young boy, he moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he attended grade school through his junior year of high school. He then moved to Depoe Bay, Ore., and graduated from Taft High School. During the summer, he worked on the fishing boats out of Depoe Bay, developing his sea legs.
Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy and entered Dental Tech School in San Diego, Calif. He retired from the Navy as a Chief after serving 42 years between active service and the reserves. He joined the Oregon State Defense Force and retired as a Lt. Col.
Through his training in the Navy, Allen was able to become licensed to be a Dental X-ray Technician without having a doctor of dentistry. He owned his own Dental X-ray Laboratory in Portland, Ore., for 35 years.
In 1951, he married Dona Lee Martinole and they had four children, Richard, Robert, Wendy and Randy. Dona passed away in 1986, and he then moved to Idaho to help his parents on their farm along the Snake River. In 1992, he married Carol Ann Bair.
Over the years, he was involved with many organizations: American Legion, Elks, Footprinters, Oregon Society of X-ray, NCPOA, NERA and SPEBSQA. He was a member of Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as both an Elder and a Deacon.
Allen was a gentle person, a very loving husband and father with a wonderful sense of humor. Small children and animals were drawn to him because of his kind nature. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; children Robert, Wendy and Randy (Dawn Marie), daughter-in-law Joyce Waddell, stepson Greg Chandler (Gina), stepdaughter Joan VanSchoiack (Kent); grandchildren Tyson Dodge, Ryan Waddell, Katie and Jennifer Chandler, Kristen and Eric VanSchoiack; sister Marshalee Walters; and several nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dona; father, James B. Waddell; mother, Wanda Carlson; stepfather, Harvey Carlson; son, Richard Waddell; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Memorial Service will be held at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Caldwell at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28.
