Charlotte McCarthy Obituary

Las Cruces - Charlotte Marie McCarthy born September 7, 1937, to Walter James McCarthy and Mildred Johnson McCarthy, was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin and esteemed member of her community.

Charlotte dedicated her career to academia as a respected Professor of Biology at New Mexico State University. Her passion for science and education inspired generations of students throughout her tenure. She was known for her intellect, kindness, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

A skilled needlepoint and embroidery artist, Charlotte found joy and creativity through these hobbies, reflecting her patience and attention to detail.

Charlotte is survived by her beloved cousins, Genevleve Mildred McCarthy and Mary Jane Smedley and family, Timothy Edward Smedley, Patricia Ann Lachiondo and Ginger Marie Noble. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Edward James McCarthy.

Special thanks are extended to Ceil Herman, her dear long-term friend and colleague, for the care and support shown in Charlotte's final months, as well as to care giver Christine Camp and the kind staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice.

Charlotte will be interred in Wendell, Idaho honoring her family's roots and lifelong connection to the region.

Her legacy is one of dedication to family, education, and the quiet artistry she nurtured throughout her life. Charlotte Marie McCarthy's memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
