Doris Rae Mattox-Prall, 82, of Caldwell, went to be with her Lord Saturday, September 10, 2011, at a Boise hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 16th at Valley Pentecostal Church. A committal service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Boise. www.dakanfuneralchapel.comDoris was born April 25, 1929, to Eddie and Alice Mattox in Sargent, Nebraska. Her family moved to the farming community of Fargo, Idaho in 1933. Later they moved to Marsing, Idaho where she attended school. On April 27, 1947, she married the light and love of her life, Thomas R. Prall of Caldwell, Idaho. To that union of 64 years there came 2 daughters and 1 son. Karen Winn of California City, California, Phyllis Brewer of Hermiston, Oregon, and Ronald Prall (Cindy) of Kamiah, Idaho. Five grandchildren are Tony Mentell of Washington, Kimberly Mentell (deceased), Trudy (Phillip) Matson of Washington, and Lauren and Natalie of Oregon. Four great grandchildren are Saphire (deceased), Ezekiel, Keith, and Carissa. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters all preceding her in death.
Doris and Tom lived throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California before returning to Boise in 1960; then Meridian in 1963, and finally settling in Caldwell in 1990.
She enjoyed being a wife and mother for many years before entering the work field. She worked at Montgomery Wards, Swifts, JR Simplots, JC Pennies, and in the Meridian School Lunch Program until her retirement in 1990. She loved doing things with her family and friends like camping, fishing, and traveling in their RV. She served as the Idaho State Women's Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary from 1988-1989 and as Unit Commander and Chaplin for the DAV Unit 13 of Nampa 2005-2010.
She was a member of the Valley Pentecostal Church adding many friends to their already extended family. Doris made friends wherever she went, always helping those in need and giving back to her community and country. The legacy she leaves behind is that of a Christian life that will continue through her family and friends lives that she knew.
