Boise - In Her Own Words:
Dorothy "Dot" Marie Stanton was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 16, 1929, to Stephen and Beatrice Stanton. She grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York before moving to New Jersey and attending Rumson High School. She won several awards for her shorthand skills and graduated high school in 1948. She met Robert (Bob) Lee Kerns, and they were married months later in July of 1951. Dot and Bob had two sons, Robert Steven and David Lee.
In 1961, they were stationed in Istanbul, Turkey for two years and then to Incirlik Air Base where Dot was the Administrative Assistant to the Commanding Officer of the Base. After six years in Turkey, they returned to Strategic Air Command in Minot, North Dakota, where Bob retired from the Air Force.
In 1969, Dot went to work for the Cashier of Idaho First National Bank, staying for 27 years through the transitions from IFNB to WestOne Bank to U.S. Bank and retired in 1996 as Senior Executive Assistant to the President. She made some wonderful friends through the years at USB and, most especially, the group of ladies who worked with her in the Executive Department, on the 19th floor. Upon retirement from USB, Dot completed one of her life-long dreams when she enrolled at Boise State University. In 2000, she graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and was always a devout BSU supporter.
Dot is survived by her son David, four grandchildren: Vanessa (Brandon) Hild, Jessica Kerns, Nikki Kerns (Dustin Stephenson), and Ryan Patxi (Naomi) Kerns. She is also survived by the most wonderful ten great-grandchildren in the world, who made Dot so very happy and thankful just to be with them: Kezia Hild, Allison (Joel) Whiteford-Hild, Raymundo Herrera III, Patxi Bentz, Kepa Bentz, Kian Kerns, Delilah Herrera, Lucas Kerns, Maialen Bentz, and Molly Kerns. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her son Robert, and her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kerns.
My heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all the personnel at Sacred Heart School for what they have done and do for the students.
To my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren I just want to say, with all my heart, thanks for everything. I will miss you all terribly and love you all very much. God Bless and always stay safe. Hugs, Grammie
