Dorothy Murphy Obituary

Meridian - Dorothy (Paulin) Murphy

Mom was born March 22, 1935, to Margaret and Harry Paulin. She was 1 of 13 kids raised on a Meridian, ID farm during the depression. She used to say they didn't have a lot, but they had plenty. She attended Blue Valley School and Meridian High, where she made lifelong friends.

When she married John Barrutia in 1954, she fell in love with everything Basque. She had the opportunity to live with John in Germany, while he was in the Service, and it awakened her love of travel. They went on to have 4 children and were involved in the Basque community and a 4 wheel drive club. They later divorced.

Mom married Marty Rust in 1970. They raised their blended family in Boise, spent time at the ranch in Oregon, the boat at Anacortes and traveled even more. They shared many happy years until he died in 1992.

She met and married Bob Murphy in 1995. In Bob she found her perfect traveling partner. They traveled the world and shared their love and adventures with their extended families. Mom and Bob also shared their faith in the catholic church until he passed in 2014.

Mom was a beautiful person inside and out. She had a joy for life that was infectious. She had a kind heart, loved a good joke and had a wicked sense of humor. She had such a sunny outlook on life that all of us kids teased her about being the captain of The Good Ship Lollypop. She loved her family, the catholic church, gardening and lunch with her friends. Her sisters and sisters in law were very special to her. Occasionally mom would write poetry and if you ever had a chance to hear or read any of it, her amazing take on life was clear. Mom had a lifelong love of music and a beautiful voice. All of us kids have a favorite song from our childhood. She even sang Amazing Grace the day before she died.

The world has lost a beautiful person and voice. What we have lost, the angels have gained.

Dorothy is survived by her children John (Robbi) Barrutia, Laura (Dennis) Florey, Lisa Barrutia, David (Dava) Barrutia, Marta (Danny) Hartzog, Mike (Sandy) Rust, Shawna Rust, Sue Ramirez, Anne Anderson, Bob (Colleen) Murphy, Terry (Karen) Murphy. Her sisters Frances Bishop, Carol (John) Coombs, and Joy Schuck. Her brothers John (Andrea) Paulin, Jim (Gloria) Paulin. Numerous grandkids, great grandkids, and extended family.
