Elbern Sayers

Elbern Deverne "E.D." Sayers, 88, of Nampa, passed away peacefully on Friday night, May 25, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, ICU Unit in Nampa. A graveside funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the Melba Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to please meet at the cemetery for the service. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to the Melba Senior Center for a time of food and fellowship. Elbern D. Sayers was born on July 21, 1918, in Derby, Iowa, the son of Orville and Dot (Exley) Sayers. He along with his parents and two sisters moved to Melba in the late 1930s. He graduated from Melba High School. He married Lois E. Gray on Dec. 21, 1940, in Nampa. They farmed in the Murphy, Melba and south of Nampa areas for over 70 years. Elbern was a longtime member of the Upper Deer Flat Volunteer Fire Department.
Elbern is survived by his four children, Dale (Lorraine) Sayers, Nampa; Jerry (Judy) Sayers, Boise; Ed (Evelyn) Sayers, Ontario, OR; and Becky (Dale) Tackett, Nampa; eight grandchildren, Cheryl (Darrel) Rosti; Alaina (Jeff) Huhn; Kim (Andrew) Sayers-Fay; T.J. Sayers; Dee Berryman; Ray Berryman; Kristy (Darian) Schaffan; and Brad (Kirsten) Sayers; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois of 66 years on March 19, 2007; his sisters, Elva Webb, Wilma McClintock on March 18, 2007; a grandson, Christopher Sayers and a son-in-law, Lee Berryman.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the Melba Senior Center, Melba, ID 83641.
The family would like to thank the nurses in the ICU Unit at Mercy Medical Center; Dr. Chu and Dr. Hutchings of the St. Alphonsus Medical Group of Nampa; and his care provider, Linda Britton, for making dad's last days comfortable.
