Elizabeth Montgomery Obituary

Elizabeth L. 'Betz' Montgomery
June 21, 1927 - November 24, 2017
Elizabeth "Betz" Montgomery died from natural causes on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017. She was 90 years old. Her parents, Joy F. Corn and Everett E. Corn, welcomed Betz into the world at Caldwell, Idaho on June 21, 1927. She lived for a few years in Middleton, moving later to Caldwell, where she spent most of the rest of her life. Betz graduated from Caldwell High School and later Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. After graduating, she married William M. Purcell of Eugene, Oregon. They had two sons, Stephen and Jeffrey.
Betz was active in many organizations including AAUW, Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, Caldwell Retail Merchants, Caldwell Fine Arts, and numerous Bible studies. Betz was raised in the Memorial Park Baptist Church. Later she was a member of Caldwell's United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and the Youth Ministry for many years.
The resolute spirit of Betz and quest for knowledge enabled her to accomplish and do much in life. Caldwell Auto Supply began in 1936 by her father, Everett. In the 70's to 80's she guided the company forward growing the company to include 8 NAPA Auto Parts stores locally. As majority shareholder she was one of the first women to own NAPA stores in the nation. She was truly the companies' matriarch providing employment and help to hundreds of people during her 60 years of work. She was always grateful for the support and assistance of Caldwell Auto Supply's employees enabling her to succeed.
Betz enjoyed her family and friends. Though her first marriage ended after 20 years, she enjoyed as many years married to Lesley Montgomery. She always held a special place for both the Foote and Corn family. Her 4 grandchildren were more than special giving her joy and hope. She gave of herself to others without expectations.
Betz was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Sam E. Corn, and her husband(s).
Surviving her are both her sons and their families, Steve L. and his wife, Lili and their children, Jason E., Alex, and Aleta; Jeff L. and his wife, Nora and their son, Lynn S. and wife Elizabeth B (Sanders); and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Betz including hospice and Ashley Manor. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 1st at Caldwell United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Middleton Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com

I will always remember Betz as a very nice classy lady. She was my patient for several years and the wife of one of my partners, Les. She will be much more comfortable now. Paul McConnel M D

I remember Chistmas in the 1940/1950s being visited in Middleton, Betz who my mother described as her favorite cousin. Each year my brothers and sister looked forward to the goodies she brought to us. the very best being cookies with dimes inside.
