To all USS Truxtun nukes who served from approximately 1980 -1990. I just wanted to let you know that Nuclear machinist mate 1st class Geoff Baker passed away in his sleep on Christmas morning in his own bed due to a heart attack! To all who knew him I think everyone would agree that he was one wild and crazy guy and one of the smartest Nukes I ever knew! He was also one of the greatest water trap artists I ever saw! He will be missed! Farewell, my friend! I worded that badly by saying only Nukes, many non nukes paid their respects and made me remember we were all shipmates that watched each others backs, that was what it was all about! Geoff was a hero here in Boise, Idaho! The store by his house was being robbed by a madman (literally), so Geoff distracted the guy to save the clerk, there were no cell phones at the time! The madman turned his fury at Geoff chasing him around his own pickup shooting at Geoff with a .357 magnum, getting of 6 rounds while they stared at each other through the cab of the pickup! One bullet stuck in the door instead of hitting Geoff, a miracle! The robber told the police he was about to kill the store clerk until Geoff showed up and made him mad! He could have left the scene but he chose to stay and fight, that says all you need to know about him! Thank all of you for your great responses, he would have loved it!
