George Bye Obituary

George Albert Bye, 90, of Caldwell passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at home of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28 at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell with burial to follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dakan Chapel.
George was born on October 24, 1916, to Hans A. and Sophie Julum Bye at Ashby, Minnesota. He spent all of his childhood in Minnesota and North Dakota, receiving his primary education there.
George entered the Conservation Corps and was sent to Montana where he learned to drive a truck. He ran a crew of several men and on weekends would transport them into town where they would purchase him a movie ticket for being their "designated driver."
George's parents moved to Idaho and when his mother became ill he went to see her. It was then that he met the love of his life. He married Rosetta 'Rosie' Hoffman in Nampa on April 21, 1940. He worked at Buy Rite in Nampa and on the Anderson Ranch Dam Project. He then took his young family, wife and two girls, to Seattle where he worked in a plant building trucks for WWII. The weather didn't agree with George's health, so they moved to Oregon where three more children were born and he worked as an auto mechanic. The family moved to Caldwell, where he started a House Moving business which he ran and retired from in the 1960s. For a short time he worked with Bill Huckstep House Moving in Boise.
George and Rosie traveled for a couple of years before settling in Avondale, Arizona. House Moving was in his blood, so he ran a crew there for several years. In 1990, they returned to rural Caldwell. George lost his wife of 59 years when Rosie died in 2000. Four years later he moved into Friendship Manor in Caldwell and resided there until his death.
George is survived by his five children, Janie (Curt) Thiel of Nampa, Alberta Anderson (Ron McDonnell) of Caldwell, Helen (Joe) DuBose of Nampa, George (Bonnie) Bye of Las Vegas, NV, and Frances Rogers of Caldwell; sister-in-law, Alberta Allstott of OR; brother-in-law, Harold Hoffman of AK; 17 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie; his parents; sister, Alice Whittenborn; grandson, Steven Rourick; great-granddaughter, Jenna Nielsen; great great-grandson, Ethan Nielsen; and sons-in-law, Merv Anderson and Ricky Rogers.
The family would like to send a special thanks for George's caregiver, Lorraine Hooper.

George
Time and distance often keep us apart.
But it didn't change whats in our
hearts.
the difference in our ages once seemed monumental.
Until I grew up and then it seemed
incidental.
You helped build my character by your standards and style.
I will miss you dearly and hope I
pass it on for a while.
Love Jim and Rae
