It´s been a while, a long while, but as I recall, Gordon and I met in the 4th grade in McKinley School in Boise, which would have been when we were both 10 yrs. of age. If that recollection is correct that was 73 years ago. Our families both lived south of Boise at the time. We then attended West Jr. High together and played in the band together. We remained friends when he later attended Meridian High and I attended Borah High. Still, we´d hang out together. After graduating from high school, we both ended up surveying for the BLM. The two of us rented an old house together which was located on a steep hillside in Kellogg, Idaho. Kellogg is between Coeur d´ Alene and the Montana border. That was the first time either one of us had lived away from our parent´s watchful eye. Next thing I knew, Diane got her hooks into Gordon and/or Gordon fell for Diane´s abundant charms. Over the years, life´s events took us in different directions at times, but somehow we found ourselves back together again. In more recent years (decades) it´s been Gordon and wife, Diane, and Tom and wife, Wanda, who would get together for breakfast somewhere. Diane and Wanda would sit and visit the entire time, Gordon and Tom would sit and nod as if they knew what the other guy had just said. Just the 4 of us being together was a great pleasure for me. I´m not going to say goodbye, Gordon, you haven´t gone anywhere. You are still in my heart!

Uncle Gordon was a highly respected member of our family. He provided a calm support and a willingness to give of his time to help members of his family. If you needed help moving, Uncle Gordon was there. If you needed help with the new calves, when they branding, and doctoring them, Uncle Gordon was there. Uncle Gordon spent many weekends over several months to help my family remodel our old farmhouse. He never complained and he was always there when needed.
We lost my father, Gordon´s brother Marvin, quite unexpectedly. As I dealt with the shock of losing my dad and being peppered with questions, I wasn´t sure how to answer, I would look to my Uncle Gordon, standing towards the back of the room with his hands folded in front of him, with my Aunt Diane next to him, and felt his calm, gentle support. It´s one of the, many memories I will cherish about my uncle.
