Jon Dobbs Obituary

Jon Lee Dobbs
November 9, 1945 - August 13, 2014
Jon Lee Dobbs, 68, died Wednesday, August 13th, 2014, in a Nampa care facility.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Linda Berend Dobbs; his children, Jonny Eric Dobbs, Justin Lee Dobbs (and his wife, Rebekah Dobbs), and Jordawn Nilina Dobbs; his grandchildren, Christin Heart Dobbs, Liv True Dobbs, Sophie Leigh Dobbs, Hudson Lee Dobbs and Davis Deborah Dobbs; his neice, Darci Toskin, and nephew, James Dobbs. He is also survived by cousins, Bobbie Wilda, Janie Collins, Debi Foster; Terry and Jerry Beukelman; uncles, Jim Frazier and Curt Beukelman; one aunt, Bunny Dobbs, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Dee Dobbs; mother, Margaret Frazier Dobbs; and brother, James Dee Dobbs.
Jon was a lifetime resident of Nampa. He met his wife in the 5th grade at Lone Star Elementary and married in 1966. While still in high school, Jon enjoyed participating in football and track, and although he was quite good in both, we suspect it was sometimes as much for the comradery of his teammates as for the sport, itself. Upon graduating from Nampa High, Jon followed in his father's footsteps, carving out a career in the auto industry, owning multiple dealerships over the past 50+ years. During that time, he earned the moniker, "Honest Jon," which clearly defined his approach to handling business transactions, as well as personal relationships.
Jon took great pride in his business and truly relished the friendships made during that time. Over the years, he built a strong reputation as a man of honesty and integrity, always putting the needs of others at the forefront of every decision. His easy-going demeanor and generosity quickly made him a pillar and well-respected member of the community, as evidenced by his past service as President for the Nampa Bulldog Boosters and the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association. However, a true cowboy at heart, Jon received his greatest satisfaction representing the Snake River Stampede as President of their Board of Directors. He also served in the Army Reserves.
When not at work. Jon spent his free time doting on the granddaughters. As their "chauffer," he spent countless hours doing what he loved best, driving the girls around to their various activities.
To know Jon, was to love him, and he'll always be fondly remembered by the multitude of people fortunate enough to call him friend and blessed enough to be his family.
At his request, there will be no services at this time. The family would like to encourage those who wish to honor Jon's memory, to consider donating in his name, to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047) or the preferred charity of their choice.
These final thoughts were lovingly written and shared with us today, by Jon's oldest granddaughter, Christin:
"A man of very few words, but always had the right words. You have been a best friend and a role model, doing anything for anyone and wanting nothing in return. I can not say enough times … "Thank-you." I can only hope I can someday be such a giving, loving and hard-working person, that you made look so easy. You will forever be a part of my life and who I am today."

Linda and Children,
My heart goes out to you at the loss of Jon. There are so many memories of Bob going down to the Auto Store and chatting with Bob and Cecil. He admired Bob because of his integrity and willingness to always give advice or help with cars and trucks or just life in general. May you relish in the wonderful memories of a husband and father. I have heard countless stories from Jason about hunting with Justin outside the deck of your home. Your family has made an impact on our family in many positive ways. My prayers are with each of you. I know that God will sustain you with hope and peace.

I remember Jon and Linda from the St. Monica's Circle husband and wife socials. The first party we attended was at Jon & Linda's home and they made us feel so welcome and relaxed. We laugh about the white elephant gift exchange to this day - all while relaxing on their deck on a beautiful evening. Jon was quiet but he had a very gentle smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time of sorrow. Mike & Tina Huttash

Linda,

Jon was a very special man. I remember him taking time to help me with my report for college. And also helping with our outing for "Dress for Success". You have been my shining star! Both of you will always have a special place in my heart.

Linda,
I sent my brother Mark Kent the news of Jon's passing today and wanted to offer his condolences to you and your family. Mark bought his very 1st car from Jon some 45 or more years ago. It was a 59 Oldsmobile! He has very fond memories of Jon and wanted you to know that. Mark also said to tell you hi as you were his teacher at Kuna high when we lived in Kuna. He always loved you and spoke highly of you through the years. You sure made an impression on him! He said you would remember him because you would walk through the classroom while teaching and say to him "wake up Mark!" He said it was weird because he had a dream the other night about the 59 Oldsmobile! He wanted me to express to you that he is thinking of you and has many happy memories of you and Jon. Mark lives in Portland Oregon now so I thought this would be the best way to convey his thoughts. May your memories comfort you at this time. Deanna salas for Mark Kent

I knew Jon from NHS. He was a senior and I was a sophomore. He was a great guy to know. We lost track of each other after NHS but I always had great respect for him.

Jon was a man of substance and a good friend of mine since he was a little boy. We spent lots of time together because my parents (Al and Lucille Eason) and his parents (Cec and Margaret) were married in a double wedding ceremony and remained life-long friends. We shared Sunday dinners frequently, vacationed at McCall, etc. It was such a pleasure to reconnect with Jon (and Linda) when we moved back to Boise. I loved the times he and Linda joined us for the family Christmas parties, the lunches, etc. I will miss him a lot, but the world is a better place today because he was a part of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Jon's family and friends.

Jon, You were a pleasure to rent from, and I loved the way you and your grand-kids would come and deliver your home-made goodies to your tenants. You were so well known in this community for so many years, what a great asset you were person you were to know. Rest in peace Jon
