Lawrence Yellen Obituary

Nampa - Lawrence (Larry) Franklin Yellen passed away on January 20, 2024, at 93, of natural causes. He was born to Joseph and Lillian Yellen on May 31, 1930, in Bottineau, North Dakota. During his adolescence, the family moved from North Dakota to Mesa, AZ, then to Los Angeles, CA, and finally settled in Salem, OR where Larry married Delores Rolofson and the couple welcomed two daughters, Linda and Cindy. After divorcing, Larry and the young girls moved to Nampa, ID, where he worked in the Yellen family's appliance repair company, Utility Electric. The company was established in 1949 by father, Joe Yellen and uncle, Adolph Yellen. In 1959, Larry and his brother Frank became owners, renaming it Yellen Refrigeration Appliance and Supply. They operated the business until retiring in 2010. In 1962 Larry married Delores "Dee" Taylor and they blended their families into the Yellen Clan of seven. Dee passed in 1994 and in 2003, Larry wed Wanda Musgrave. Wanda remained lovingly by his side until his death.

Larry was an Exalted Ruler of the Nampa Elks Club and was active in the Boise Edelweiss Club. He was a kind and thoughtful gentleman of few words, and had a great love of reading and music, playing both the accordion and piano. He enjoyed puttering in his garden and growing plants from pineapple tops and miscellaneous seed pods that he collected on his daily walks. He also found a quiet pleasure in feeding squirrels on his patio. He will be sincerely missed by his loved ones and anyone who had the good fortune to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lillian Yellen, his sister Jeanette McCormick, his brothers James Yellen and Frank Yellen, wives Delores Rolofson and Dee Yellen, and daughter Cyndi Taylor. He is survived by wife, Wanda Musgrave, brother Ted Yellen, sister Marolane Stevenson, his children Linda Kastner, Cynthia Todd, Melanie Burgess, Steve Taylor, grandchildren Ben Quillinan, Madison Burgess and Lily Wei, and great-grandsons Marcus and Max Quillinan and Remi Burgess.

Dear Wanda and family: So sorry to hear of your lose. My son and I are so glad we were able to see you, Larry and other Yellen family members during our 2012 vacation. I knew we would not have another chance to see any of you in person again. Our deepest sympathy to you all. Much love from Jean (Yellen) Jordan and Son Brendan, daughter of Larry's cousin Henry F. Yellen in Minnesota.

My dad was my hero! Kind, soft spoken, artistic and the guy you just couldn't help but like. I'll miss him tremendously!
