Margaret Edith Vassar

1935 - 2024

Nampa - Margaret Edith Vassar went home to her Heavenly Father on Friday November 15, 2024. Margaret was born in Pinehurst near Everett, Washington on August 10, 1935 to Archie T. and Edith L. Ryals. At an early age she hitchhiked with her mother and older brother Don to Caldwell, Idaho where they resided thereafter. Margaret graduated from Caldwell High School in 1953. She had several jobs after high school to include: Glen L. Evan's tying flies, Caxton Printer, and Model Market in Caldwell Idaho as a cashier. While living in Caldwell, Idaho at the age of 22 she met her best friend and love of her life Don Vassar. They married on January 10, 1958 and shared nearly 67 years together. After their marriage they moved to Lynnwood, Washington (1959-1965), Issaquah, Washington (1965-1970), Forest Grove, Oregon (1970-1974), Caldwell, Idaho (1974-1990), Tamuning, Guam (1990-1999), Nampa, Idaho (1999- Present). During her time in Guam she enjoyed traveling with Don to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Palau, Hawaii, Germany and 13 other European countries. Margaret always put her own ambitions on hold whether it was being a stay at home mom or working to support the family's needs. Margaret loved to camp, sew, knit, crochet, cook and most of all spend time with her family. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Vassar; brothers, Donald Ryals, Elden (Butch) Ryals, Gary (Cathy) Ryals; Sister, Shirley Rowe; son, Gregory Vassar; daughter, Lorie (Randy) Blackshear; Grandkids, Kira (Will) Elmer, JoAnna (Mathew) Gossman, Deidra (Mathew) Coker, Alisha Burgess, and Bryan (Savannah) Vassar. Margaret also had 7 great-grandchildren: Jaren and Julian Gossman, Emma and Lucas Elmer, Elijah, Jonathan and Natalie Coker. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Eddins; stepfather, George Eddins; sisters, Georgia Eddins, Judy Schartzer; sister in-laws, Leta Ryals, Joyce Ryals; daughter in-law, Tina Vassar; granddaughter, Mandy Burgess.

Funeral services will be held at Dakan Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services to follow at Peaceful Valley Cemetery.
