Phyllis Stimpert Obituary
Caldwell - Phyllis Anne Stimpert (née Foster), 88, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2025, in Caldwell, Idaho, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Caldwell on August 14, 1937. Her life was a testament to the power of education, compassion, and unwavering dedication to children.
Phyllis graduated from Caldwell High School and went on to earn both her B.A. and M.A. from the College of Idaho, majoring in elementary education with a focus on early childhood development and beginning reading-an area that became her lifelong passion.
Phyllis devoted over 35 years of her life to teaching first grade and kindergarten in the Caldwell School District. Her love for her students was evident in every lesson she taught and every child she mentored.
Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom through active roles in the Caldwell and Idaho Education Associations. Her efforts played a significant role in the establishment of public kindergartens in Idaho-an enduring legacy that continues to benefit generations of young learners. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, Phyllis was honored as Washington School Teacher of the Year in 1995 and District Teacher of the Year in 1996.
Phyllis's commitment to children extended into her volunteer work as well. She was a tireless advocate for the children of migrant farm workers, dedicating countless hours at the local labor camp to keep the library open and help children with their reading. She also helped establish the Migrant Ministry Summer Day Care program, providing essential support for families during harvest seasons. Even after retirement, she continued to volunteer, helping students reach grade-level reading proficiency.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Phyllis lived a rich and joyful personal life. She loved to read-always with at least two books going-and had a deep appreciation for music and drama. She enjoyed singing, playing piano, and square dancing. She also cherished time spent with friends through organizations like AAUW and ADK.
Above all else, Phyllis treasured time with her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert Stimpert; her children Kathryn Keith, Chris (Debbie) Keith, and Samuel (Buffie) Stimpert; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Nera Foster; granddaughter Samantha Thomas; and brother Dick Foster.
Phyllis leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, intellect, service, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every child. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service, but a private gathering for immediate family. Donations may be made to The Idaho Education Association Children's Fund in her memory at 620 N 6th St, Boise, ID 83702.
