This week is hard on me Bro. Your mom posted a beautiful picture of you today that reminded me of your spirit I miss so much. I was on Google maps the other day and the satellite view shows your Xterra parked in front of the house. My Lord Jesus comforts me in my sadness. I pray He brings comfort to all your friends and family, especially your mom. I will never forget you. My pitbull reminds me of your strength, courage, and kind heart. All of us are holding on to what made you the best friend I ever had. One year and it's not any easier, but again I stand in God's comfort.

Sam and Christy,
I was horrified to hear of Randall's death. There is nothing worse than having your child die, no matter how old he is. It just isn't supposed to happen. There have been times when my daughter was sick that I was distraught and worried about how I'd be able to function if I lost her. I have lost loved one and life is empty and hard without them. I can't imagine how you both are able to go on with life. When Randall was on active duty and in a war zone, how you must have worried. But then he cam home safely and you must have thought the worst was over. Then to have him taken from you at such a young age, what a cruel twist of fate. I can imagine nothing more awful. My prayers are with you.

Randall is a true, honest, giving and great friend. A part of him always lives on within me. I remember fond memories growing up with him as a teenager, as he was an excellent wrestler. A good 30 pounds lighter than me he could always flip me on my head no matter what (and believe me I tried!).

He gave me strength and was always there to back and believe in me when there was no one else. He strove to be the best he could be in all that he did and continues to inspire me to be better every day. I thank you for allowing him to be a part of my life and I feel that we are like family, he's the brother I never had. Christy I will keep in touch as when we talk, I feel a part of him is alive with me.

Thanks for the well wishes, pictures and card. I will take care and hope all stays well and good with you also. Much love.

Vontress and I are so sorry for your loss. The picture you sent of Randall was not Randall for me. In my mind's eye he is still the wiry youth with a flat top who would come into our classroom, Christy. What a wonderful young man he became. He will always live in your heart. I am so thankful for our faith that promises a huge reunion one day.

I just wanted to say that "Fish" was a hell of a friend and really helped me adjust to life in Okinawa. It was my first duty station and I was having a hard time adjusting to living in the Marines and being on the opposite side of the planet from my family. If I may be so blunt, you raised a hell of a man, one that was a true friend and is sorely missed.

We were all saddened to hear of Randall's passing. My boys still remember the wild and crazy times they had with Randall from their younger days together in Portland. It's been many years since you two moved to Idaho. Sounds like being a Marine helped Randall become a responsible young man. Things were falling into place for him . He was studying to be in a profession where he could help others. With his untimely passing he may still be given the roll of helping others just in another setting...
Randall is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Much love to you Christy.

When I heard, I cried. As a mother, I can't imagine your pain. While I didn't know Randall, I did know of your deep and enduring love for him..always with a sense of pride as he grew into manhood. I know you are surrounded by the love of others now, Christy, and I wish you only a sense of quiet peace.

Christy, I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine the feelings associated with the loss of a child. The order of life dictates that we should not outlive our children...Randall was such a cute little guy. I wish he could have experienced all of the wonders of becoming a man.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Of course I remember Randall from the old Mt. Tabor neighborhood growing up in Portland. Mark and I used to babysit him sometimes and I have memories of being at his house on many occasions watching cable TV, eating mac n' cheese and drinking coke or jumping in the hot tub. He had a lot of energy, which meant he got into trouble a lot. He was very curious and bold; he would do things that I would have never done. Sometimes it seemed like he had no boundaries. It was very entertaining at times and off putting at others. He and Christy moved away to Idaho before I was a teenager. I always wondered how he turned out as an adult, but I can only remember him as a child, 2 years my junior.

Have you said "I love you" or "I miss you" to someone that means the world to you? My best friend, Randall, passed away almost two months ago. I know he would want me to be strong and not cry for him. I just can't be strong all the time. I miss you. I still think just maybe I'll get a call from you today, but no call. I know one day I'll see you again. RIP, friend.

Randall has been a very special friend. As a small boy, he found the time to sit down and visit as an adult. Through his life this never changed. We would visit; talking about dogs (mainly boxers), school, relationships or friends. The list goes on. Randall had a rare gift of really listening as well as sharing his own thoughts. We would always learn something from each other. He and I ended our last conversation with that observation. His life was short, but filled with an ability to fully enjoy his time here, as well as explore his own challenges, that were sometimes overwhelming. I think Randall's decision to be a Marine surprised us all. He searched for discipline and a sense of accomplishment; surely he found these and more when he went into the service of our country. Randall holds a special place in my heart, always has and always will.

Today is a very sad day. Today I discovered that a great friend of mine is gone from this world. Randall entered my life our freshman year at U of I. He made an impact on my life then and has continued to do so all these years. His life was indeed cut too short, he had so much more to contribute. He will be remembered every day!

Dear Christy,
I hope you know how much I loved Randall even though he and I never got really close. It was a blessing to have spent some time talking to him on the 4th of July, and I really enjoyed getting to know him a little better. I still say that things are "a doorbell" and always think of how incredibly cute he was as a little tow-headed boy. You have always been a great Mom and he was so lucky to have you and the close relationship you shared. I will never forget the trip to Bend and the amazing quilt you had made for him. What a wonderful thing! He had a truly good heart, which was reflected in his love of animals and his relationships with his friends. He will always be with us in our hearts. I'm just so very sorry he had to leave us so soon.

Love from your cousin,

I will remember Randall for his quick wit, determination and assertiveness. Those "bridge reunion" weekends in Shelton brought us together for just short periods of time, but we always had fun and were good buddies during those visits.

I've been trying for days to write something for Randall, it has been so difficult to know what to say. So much goes through my mind. Ive been non stop thinking of all the wonderful times Randall and I had. We shared so much together. I miss him very much. I will always remember the beautiful smile and dimples, the wonderful poems he wrote, and all the times we spent together. I know he is waiting for me, so we can hug each other again one day. He is a hero, a best friend, and a wonderful man. ILUSM <3 Peace be with you, till we meet again.

It's been years since I saw you last, but I felt compelled to send you a note of condolence.
Words cannot describe how sorry I am for your loss. I miss Randall terribly and really have only the memories of our childhood. I'm very glad that I got to see him a few years back around the time of Grampa Sam's passing, but if I,m being honest, I wish that it could've been so much more. While I have the memories, I have that regret of time not spent.
My childhood was made better by the time that I got to spend with him. Palling around, nights and weekends spend with Rick and Annis, him losing a shoe on a railroad trestle outside the Lion's Club in Cosmopolis and him asking Grampa Sam for an electric guitar for Christmas one Thanksgiving (with you threatening to move him in with Sam if he dared) are some of my fondest. I just hope that he held those times close to his heart as well.
We may not have been close, Randall and I, but I loved him. Love him. And I miss him.
Christy, I'm so SO sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there to say goodbye, to tell you all of this myself. Please take solace in his memories and the positive impact that he had on others.
My Heartfelt sympathy,
JR Salmon

Dear Christy,
I can't express how sorry I am for your loss. I've only known Randall for a fairly short period of my life but he became one of my best friends and I cannot believe he's not with us anymore. We just caught up again recently and shared stories about school and college. He seemed to enjoy what he was doing.
Earlier tonight I've been looking through pictures of Randall and saw that I'm listed as his cousin in the obituary. All I did then was cry and I'm definitely not ashamed to admit it.
I went outside for a smoke and saw the pitch black, dark sky. I started thinking and talking to myself a little about the great and fun time we had, when I briefly noticed a bright star up in the sky. For me, it was Randall, no doubt about that. Him watching us up there...being with us, no matter what we do or where we are.
When I went inside to brush my teeth, I figured I simply HAD to tell you.
Love,
Henry
