Robert Patterson Obituary

Boise - Scott Patterson passed from this life on November 12, 2024. He was born in Boise, Idaho on November 5, 1947 to Polly and Dale Patterson. The family, including older brother Pat, lived in Cascade, Idaho where Dale was the doctor for Valley County making house calls to Yellow Pine and Stibnite and treating the many injuries incurred in the building of the dam to create Cascade Lake. The family made many lifelong friends during that time, but after younger sister Cathy was born, they moved to Boise. They lived in a house on 5 acres on Broadway Ave. They had cows, horses, dogs, cats, chickens and a garden.

Scott attended Garfield Elementary, East Jr. High and graduated from Boise High in 1966. In high school his sport was wrestling. He lettered all 3 years and was sure he had the state championship sown up his senior year until a friend said, "Let's go skiing." He broke his leg that day and spent a good portion of his senior year in a full length cast.

Because his dad was such an outdoorsman, Scott was able to experience at an early age some amazing adventures in the back country and wilderness areas of Idaho, usually on horseback hunting and fishing. He loved it. He had many stories about fishing at Dagger Falls, waking up to find a black bear ambling through their camp, and one August when they spent 2 weeks in the White Clouds and never saw another person. These times instilled in him a profound love and appreciation for the natural world.

In the spring of 1967, when Scott was home from college for the weekend, he was invited to Boise High's May Queen formal by then senior Dee Ann Copsey. That was the beginning of a lasting love affair. They married, had a son, Jason, and settled in Boise. Scott continued his education at Boise State and graduated with a degree in Biology. Later he took accounting classes and got his CPA license.

Scott and Jason attended many sporting events together beginning when Jason was quite young up until when Scott could no longer attend; most being Boise State football and basketball games. It was a life-long father-son bonding time that Scott treasured.

A favorite pastime was backpacking. Scott was surprised but thrilled when Dee Ann loved it as much as he did. They backpacked into some of the same places Scott had been to as a child with his dad, Jungle Lake in the Payette National Forest having a special place in his heart.

Scott was happiest being self-employed. After different and varying jobs, he and Dee Ann started Patterson Company Inc., their construction company, which they would run until retirement. It kept them busy but also allowed them to travel to New Zealand, Thailand, and different countries in Europe. They also began spending part of the winter in the Palm Springs area of southern California, which was especially fun when Jason's family would come to visit.

Scott was fiercely independent and a logical thinker. He was a man of integrity and empathy. He loved with his whole heart and was much loved in return.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Pat, who was not only his older brother but his best friend and his loss was felt very deeply. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dee Ann, their son Jason and his wife Brooke, grandchildren Bailey and Davis, and by his sister Cathy.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 2-4 pm at the Barber Park Event Center.

Dee Ann, I´m so very sorry for your loss. I´ve only known Scott for the past couple of years but he was a very sweet and gentle man whose smile could light up a room. He always made me and my mom smile. I have missed seeing the two of you enjoying a walk together and think of you often.

Very sorry to hear about Scott's passing. I know he had a huge impact on my brother's life as well as so many others. I keep remembering the Dr. Seuss quote; "Do not be sad because it's over... be glad that it happened."

Condolences to the Patterson family, DeAnn, Jason, and his family. I knew Scott and DeAnn, they were nice to me. I was married to Scotts brother Pat, so that is how I know the family! I am only related to the family by the marriage to Pat, so I will be a friend. I have some experience like most of us when we lose a loved one, which I hard, and the one thing that I love to hold onto are the fond Memories we have of our family members, and they always remain with us, which brings me comfort, for the rest of my life. God Bless the family, a big air hug from me to you! from Sharon E. Patterson
