Simon Hoadley Obituary

Simon (Si) M. Hoadley, 95, died Nov. 24, at Mercy Hospital in Nampa.
Simon was born on March 20, 1915, on the Hoadley family homestead in Huston. He was the youngest of six children born to F.M. and Phoebe Hoadley.
Simon attended grade school in Huston and high school in Caldwell, where he graduated in 1934.
Simon was active in sports, and particularly enjoyed baseball, and playing trumpet in the band.
Initially he farmed with his brothers on the homestead using horses. He married Virginia Fillmore and they resided in the area as he continued farming. They divorced in 1945.
The Hoadley's were noted for particularly good potatoes, hard work and fair dealing. He was a special uncle and great uncle to many a local Hoadley, as the last survivor of the original family.
Simon married Edna Martin in 1948 and after a brief residence in Nampa moved to Wilder so that Si could run the bulk fuel business there for R & V Oil Company. Simon was noted for hard work, dependability, and honesty.
He would rise at 4:30 a.m. often beating farmers up so that they had fuel for a day in the field. He worked on pumps and repaired oil stoves, often for no charge. He was a model citizen serving on the Wilder City Council and as mayor for a brief period, and on the Planning and Zoning Commission when Chula Vista was built, the Fire District, and the Wilder Chamber of Commerce.
He and Edna had many friends and he often would play horseshoes with his buddies after lunch at the Wilder Café.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, baseball, and gardening. He was active in the Wilder Masonic Lodge which merged with Silver City Lodge #13, and met in Homedale, the Wilder Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Caldwell Elks Lodge, and the Wilder Rod & Gun Club.
He was a member of the Wilder United Methodist Church and served on the church council. He received a number of awards and recognitions for his service and citizenship.
Edna died in 1996, and after a period of mourning Si married Alice Jasper. They were both 82 years old. Simon moved to Caldwell to reside with Alice. This late life love was rich and good for them both.
He became active in the Caldwell Christian Church and raised a small but productive garden as well as continuing his pattern of service.
Alice died in 2006 and Simon was subsequently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. After a brief stay with his son he moved to Brookstone Village in Nampa, which became a new family for him. Simon continued to laugh and smile and offer concern for others until his death.
Simon is survived by his son, Fred (Mary) Hoadley of Nampa; stepdaughters, Charlotte Wedum of Missoula, and Phyllis (Dick) Chamber of Missoula, and stepson, Gary Jasper of Alaska.
Simon has 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, and many special family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookstone Village for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be given to the Wilder United Methodist Church.
Simon's viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 28, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 29, at the Wilder United Methodist Church with interment following at Canyon Hill Cemetery.

Simon, always a smile, laugh and a pleasure. I thank you for the times we shared, although having not been around for many years, you have touched me forever.
