Terry Records Obituary

Boise -

Terry (Terrence Carl), 67, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, after a brave battle with ALS. He faced this with courage and acceptance, and was ultimately at peace. Born December 4, 1953 to Bob and Nancy Records, Terry was the fifth of their nine children. Growing up in Boise's North End neighborhood led to many adventures, from Camels Back Park to Lowell Pool, the stories of Terry's childhood are as plentiful as they are colorful. However, much unlike his brothers, Terry seldom found himself in trouble and attributed this to keeping quiet, laying low and doing what he was told.

Terry attended Saint Mary's School and Bishop Kelly High School, graduating in 1972. During his school years he was known by his classmates as the scholar and an athlete. He formed many lifelong friends, and from the many recent tributes, his friendship had made quite an impression.

University of Idaho was Terry's next destination and after many pauses he graduated with a degree in engineering in 1986. Later he would receive a teaching certificate in math from Boise State.

Terry developed a strong work ethic starting at a young age selling peanuts at Braves Field with his brothers. To put himself through college he worked construction for many years. While finishing his degree in Moscow he met his future wife Jennie Davey. They moved to Boise and were married on July 4, 1987. Together they had two daughters, Morgan and Mary. Terry's greatest joy in life was being a dad to his girls. His joy only increased watching them grow into the beautiful women they are today.

Terry started with the City of Boise's Public Works department in 1991 and retired after a successful career of 22 years. A work assignment he particularly enjoyed was dressing in costume as Eddie Trout to promote clean water. After retiring, Terry moved to Henderson, Nevada to be near his daughter, Morgan, and spend as many hours in a day as he could being the best 'Pa to his grandson, Charlie. Charlie added a whole new level of meaning to Terry's life.

In 2001, Terry fought, with much determination, and won a battle with cancer. During treatment, his positivity and perseverance inspired many around him, and through it all he never lost his sense of humor. After receiving word that he was in remission, he considered every day as an extra gift. He never wavered about who he was and always moved forward in spite of the challenges life put in his pathway. Terry was compassionate, humorous, and yes, somewhat stubborn, but overall an all-around grand person. He was generous with his time, whether it was coaching a ladies basketball team, volunteering for non-profits or substituting in a grade school classroom, you could count on him to help out.

In June, Terry moved back to Boise to spend remaining time with family and friends. From his cancer diagnosis to the onset of his ALS years later, and until the very end, he had the dedicated support of his best friend Jennie. Her efforts are most appreciated and will not be forgotten by Terry's family.

Terry is survived by daughters Morgan Carruba and Mary Records; grandson, Charlie Dayton; brothers and sisters, Jim (Jessica), Cay Nielsen (Max), Pat (Sandy), Bob (Diane), Molly Scharig (Terry), Joe (Diane), P.J., Aunt Darlene; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike. Terry will be remembered by most as a kind and gentle person.

A party celebrating Terry's life will be held Sunday, July 25 from 5pm - 8pm at the Waters Edge event center, 287 E. Shore Dr., Eagle ID with live streaming available: twitch.tv/watersedgeeventcenter.com. All are welcome to come and share their memories of Terry. Contributions may be made in Terry's name to the American Cancer Society or ALS Association Nevada Chapter.

After looking up Terry with the hope of catching up after far too long, I found this beautiful tribute. I´m holding space for him and all his loved ones. He was an impactful friend to many, fast to smile and diligent to figure it all out.

To the wonderful Records Family,
I feel blessed that I went to school with Molly, which led to a life-long connection to Terry and the rest of you. The obituary so aptly described Terry´s demeanor. I´m sorry his health issues caused him to leave too soon, but he had a great ride with all of you.

My sincere & deepest sympathies to all. I´m a good friend of Molly. As long as I´ve known Molly she always shared stories & love to her family in Idaho. I did meet many during a visit for a shower for Akexa. I then got to put a face to those stories. Visiting Idaho was on my bucket list because of Molly. I am so sorry for your loss of Terry. He fought a courageous battle. How touching Molly sharing the story of a long journey bringing him home to Idaho. Know that many here would have loved to attend his memorial. We will be there in spirit & comfort Molly when she returns. RIP Terrry

I was saddened to hear of Terry's passing. My sisters, Jane and Joan, stayed in contact with Terry over the years so I am aware of his valiant battle with ALS. They said he never lost his sense of humor and accepted his fate courageously. In my grade school years I spent many fun days at the Records' family home. My heart goes out to the family along with prayers for comfort and peace. Rest in peace, Terry!

My memories of Terry will always be centered around our ladies basketball team. He tried so hard to take this very unskilled group of gals and mold us into athletes! Sadly, our primary focus was not the game but the after party-because win or lose we always had a celebration. Terry showed us his patience, kindness, and humor as we bumbled about the court. He will be sorely missed. A truly class act. Rest easy dear friend.

Terry was a great man with a amazing soul. He was more than my patient, he was my friend. I hope he is at peace and I will miss him dearly.
