Afton Hayball Obituary

Afton (Sproul) Hayball passed away peacefully March 6, 2024 at her home at the age of 89. She was born December 5, 1934 in Pocatello, Idaho to Walter Sproul and Flora G. (Anderson) Sproul but was raised by her Aunt and Uncle Clarence and Norma Romriell in Thomas, Idaho due to her parent's untimely deaths. Afton graduated from Pocatello High School in 1953. She married her lifelong husband of 64 years Fredrick "Fred" Hayball in 1955, our father, grandfather, great grandfather.

Afton was employed by the Kraft Foods Company and then American Micro Industry (AMI) as an Inspection Technician both in Pocatello, Idaho. Older residents will remember her serving the Fort Hall community as an employee of Evan's Market, which later became Jerry's Market and finally A.J.'s Market (now the Blue Corner Store). She finally worked at the Short Stop store and laundry across from the old fertilizer plant (now the location of the Fort Hall Faith Baptist Church).

Her greatest accomplishment during and after her working life, was the pride and pure joy she took in being a loving, unwavering wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, whereby she dedicated her entire life giving to our family's well being.

Afton enjoyed working picture puzzles, word puzzles, playing board games with her kids and grandchild, pinochle, gardening, spoiling her cats, being an advocate for abused animals/pets, horses and making respite feeders for passing by hummingbirds. Mom learned how to do beadwork from classes held in the basement of Timbee Hall during the late 1960's and early 1970's. Loom beading was her favorite. Probably her most notable pleasure was reading. If you woke up early enough, one would see her in her favorite chair using her personal down time with a good book before the day's events began. Afton had a selfless nature. In fact, in her adult life no one can recall her asking anything for herself, with the exception of prayer.

Afton was preceded in death by her husband Fred R. Hayball, her parents Walter and Flora Sproul, Clarence and Norma Romriell, sisters Jeanne, Shirley and one brother Walter Jr. "Dean".

Afton leaves behind sons Hal and Brett, daughter in law Laurie, grand daughter Amanda, great grand daughter Mia and her sister Joy.

As requested by Afton, there were no public funeral services. She will be dearly missed by all who truly knew her and loved her.
