LaViel J. Hildreth
SODA SPRINGS - LaViel Joseph Hildreth, 91, of Soda Springs, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Spring Creek Manor in Soda Springs.
He was born September 12, 1916, the son of William Scudder and Josephine M. Burchfield Hildreth in Soda Springs. LaViel was a lifelong resident of Soda Springs except for a few years he spent in California.
He was married to Gladys Marie Isle August 9, 1938, in Randolph, Utah.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee for several years.
He had been a truck driver for MK Construction, and hauled the first truckload of ore into Monsanto from the Ballard Mine. He also worked for Ruel Call hauling fuel. He worked in maintenance at Monsanto for 27 years, retiring in 1981.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 62, and had served as post commander. He had served as a volunteer at the Caribou County Senior Citizen Center for many years delivering meals on wheels.
He was also a member of the Good Sam Club for many years, and served as an officer. He enjoyed flying and had owned his own airplane.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Soda Springs; and three sons and their spouses, Steven and Lee Hildreth of Idaho Falls, Larry and Maxine Hildreth of Soda Springs, and Richard and Susan Hildreth of Green River, Wyoming. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and also survived by one brother and one sister, Carroll and Janiece Hildreth and Myrle Steele, all of Soda Springs. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lavern Hildreth and Lambert Hildreth, and a sister, Faye Evans.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Soda Springs. Family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home and on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to going to the church for services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, with military graveside services by the American Legion Post 61.
Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
