Loa Cammack Nelson
BLACKFOOT - Loa Cammack Nelson, 90, passed away on July 18, 2010, in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Loa was born February 21, 1920, at Darlington, Idaho, the daughter of Francis Cammack and Sarah Edna Atwood Cammack. Loa was the ninth child of a family of 11 children and the third girl. She spent her childhood in the Lost River and Pingree area. She attended school in Lost River, Pingree and Thomas.
Loa married Lyle Nelson on November 1, 1937, in Soda Spring, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Lyle and Loa made their home in Sterling-Springfield area for 35 years, farming and ranching. They continued their ranching, moving to Malta, Idaho in 1973. They later sold their Malta ranch and retired to Parma, Idaho, in 1995, keeping a few head of cattle and horses.
Loa was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions. She served as Relief Society president in two wards. She especially enjoyed sports and being outdoors with the horses and cattle. Her 90th birthday celebration was held on February 20, 2010.
She is survived by her children, Sherian and Gary Abercrombie of Aberdeen, Idaho, Sonja and Lyle Sasser of Richland, Washington, Lila and Eugene Thurston of Boise, Idaho, Lynda and Arlis Wheeler of Sandy, Oregon, Loa Beth and Stephen Probst of Mount Pleasant, Utah, Mark and Cheryl Nelson of Emmett, Idaho, Douglas and Sylvia Nelson of Parma, Idaho; 38 grandchildren; and more than 50 great-grandchildren. Loa is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Nelson, grandson, Jeff Thurston, great-grandson, Alec Thurston, her parents, brothers, Rulon, Edwin, Henry, Wilbert, Melvin, Otter and Kenneth Cammack, and sisters, Edna Cammack Hansen, Mary Cammack Moses and Lula Cammack Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday July 23, 2010, at the Lakeview LDS Church, 2150 West 800 South in Springfield, Idaho. Friends and family may also call at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Lakeview LDS Church. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
