Rose Sorensen Cheney Mackley, 95, returned to Father May 30, 2016. She was born June 27, 1920 to Niels Peter Sorensen and Martha Elizabeth Hurd. She married James Enoch Cheney on July 3, 1946, later divorced. She married Elmer Holmes Mackley on October 15, 1982. Preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her children: Jim (Connie) Cheney of Spring City, UT; Marla (Homer) Workman of Fountain Green, UT; Dave (Shirley) Cheney of Orem, UT; brothers: Rex (Mary) Sorensen of Santa Fe Springs, CA, Glenn Sorensen of Fullerton, CA, 17 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Rose began life very premature being kept alive by a dear mother who fed her with an eye dropper and warmed her in a shoebox on the oven door. She was an ambitious lady and loved people - an Army veteran and retired elementary school teacher of 20 years in Blackfoot, Idaho. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints served in both the youth and women's organizations. She was a member of the Idaho Historical Society and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Her very favorite hobby was playing guitar with the Idaho Old-Time Fiddlers for 15 years, serving 8 of those years as State Treasurer. She also loved books and kept her mind active doing crossword puzzles. A viewing will be held Sunday, June 5, 2016, 6 to 8 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, UT. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the LDS church, 250 West 600 South, Lindon. UT. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9 to 10:30 am at the church. Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Rose requested that donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
