Wylene Van Vleck
POCATELLO - Wylene Van Vleck was called home to be with her Savior on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Wylene went peacefully after a lifelong brave battle with cancer.
Wylene was born to Wilford Roberts and Margaret Roberts in Blackfoot, Idaho, on June 6, 1936, and was the first of her siblings to be born in a hospital. Wylene was baptized into the LDS Church and maintained a strong belief in her faith throughout her life.
Wylene lived most of her life in Southeastern Idaho, and graduated form Blackfoot High School in 1954.
She married the love of her life, Robert Wayne Van Vleck, in August of 1956, and enjoyed 45 years of loving marriage until Robert's passing in 2002. She raised her sons on the Blackfoot Farm until 1963, when her family moved to Pocatello. After raising her family, Wylene re-entered the work force when she accepted a position teaching at Baby-U, which became the Early Learning Center at Idaho State University until her retirement after 12 years of service. She'd early loved being a care provider for the children in her classes and was also a great mentor for her co-workers. Her caring and compassionate ways earned much praise from the children's parents as well as her fellow teachers.
Wylene had many loved activities in her lifetime which not only included the children in her care, but also taking care of her garden, travel, reading, and caring for her many pets. Wylene's most cherished pastime was in spending time with her beloved family.
Wylene is survived by her sons, Robert Vincent Van Vleck of Wendover, Nevada, and William W. Van Vleck of Pocatello, Idaho; as well as three of her eight siblings, brothers, Frank Roberts of Kearns, Utah, and John Roberts of Blackfoot; and a sister, Bonnie (Roberts) May of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Justin Van Vleck, Rachelle Van Vleck, and Pfc. Donald Van Vleck; brothers-in-law, Edgar and Timothy; sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Becky.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009, at the LDS 19th Ward Chapel, 225 Oakwood Drive in Pocatello. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., as well as one hour prior to the funeral service at the church Monday.
