Adam Shandro Obituary

Adam Shandro 1973-2009 Adam was an incredible father, dedicated husband, loving son and brother, and treasured friend. He was born May 22, 1973 in Edmonton, Alberta. He grew up in Boise and graduated from Borah High School in 1991. He was an avid outdoorsman, a skilled pilot, and a natural athlete. His outdoor pursuits took him where he loved to be most; trail running, hunting, deep sea fishing, flying and exploring from the mountains and skies of Idaho to the deep seas of Alaska and Mexico. At an early age he found a love of whitewater kayaking, and with his enthusiasm and dedication trained with the U.S. Olympic Team and developed into a world-class kayak racer. His joy in the outdoors was year-round, and from an early age he loved nothing more than racing down snowy slopes on his skis in the winter. He passed on this love to his two beautiful daughters, Addie and Ellie, who skied with their father more times this year than the rest of us could dream of. All those that knew Adam marveled at his contagious enthusiasm for life, and his ability to make the most out of every moment. He made those around him live life more fully right along with him, and shared incredible experiences by talking us into things we would have never done without him. We lost Adam in a plane crash on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009. Adam was preceded in death by his father, William Shandro. He is survived by his two daughters, Adelyn Shandro and Ellen Shandro, his wife Lori Shandro, his mother and stepfather Catherine and Ward Parkinson, his brother Timothy Shandro, his sister and brother-in-law Jamie and Hans Kieserman, and his two nieces, Nina and Margot Kieserman. Adam touched the lives of his many friends and family, and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. A memorial event celebrating Adam's life will be held Tuesday, June 9th at 10am in the Rose Garden at Julia Davis Park. In lieu of flowers or donations, please give a hearty toast to Adam with those that you love the most.

“The Shandro family treated us as members of their family in the early 80s, when Adam was eight years old, and we barely spoke any English. Today is a day of sorrow for us too, here in the Basque Country. We remember Adam, and we keep you in our hearts Cathy, Tim, Jamie and your families. On June 21st, we will toast to Adam with txakoli, a Basque white wine, just looking to the Udalatx and Anboto mountains.” Joxe, Bego and Miren (Elorrio, Basque Country)

Cathy, Lori, dear Addie & Ellie...

I am broken by the news that Adam is so longer with you in this physical world. I cannot find appropriate words to express my deepest sympathy.
I have too many fond memories of Adam (from back in the 90's) to share, but, there was definitely only one Adam Shandro...a gem, of the highest quality.

Dear Lori, Addie and Ellie...
The unexpected is the hardest of all, and although I never met your dear husband and dad, I did know his lovely grandparents, Dr.& Mrs. Bill Shandro of Edmonton, who must have been so very proud of Adam during his amazing athletic endeavors. Our family (Rebers) also of Edmonton, and the Shandros were close friends; I would certainly like to contact them should they still be living, and if you might share their address since both my parents are now gone. When the Shandro Juniors moved to Boise, my mother truly adored their children, and cared for them in order to help Bill and Cathy get his medical practice started. Although I was unable to attend your Adam's memorial, I was there with you in thought, and grateful for your close support of many friends. With warm hugs...

I know I will try to be a better friend, a better mom, a better sister and wife--as a fitting way to honor Adam.

The summer of 92 was certainly one to remember...Laura, good to hear from you and, yes, I thought about and laughed about those times. We all shared our memories, some old and some new, back and forth for the last 5 days. Thanks all for the support given to his family...it did mean alot to both his wife, children and parents.

Adam you were one of the most awesome people one could have had the pleasure of knowing. Spending a week on the Salmon river with you during the summer of 1992 was beautiful and exciting, and jet skiing on the lake in McCall a little later than we should have was memorable to us and the neighbors. One truely felt alive when in your presence and your enthusiasm was absolutely contagious. Thank you for being you! Unforgettable.

Godspeed, Adam.

Cathy, Ward, Lori, Addie, Ellie, Jamie, & Tim,
Truly Adam was a man that loved life to the fullest and he always demonstrated it in every activity that I had the pleasure of seeing him engaged in.
My earliest memories revolve around the kayaking activities and keeping a vehicle under him as he was all over the USA doing whitewater things.
More recently the times that I would see him when he came by our shop it was easy to see that the girls were now what excited him most. His interactions with them will be what I remember most.
We here at Michael's Automotive send our condolences.
Personally, my prayers are with the entire family at this time. I considered Adam a friend.

My earliest memory of Adam is in 2nd grade playing soccer at Monroe. His smile never changed in all the years I've known Adam. I always knew when we were all together, it was going to be fun - Like racing up to the hot springs at Banks with the Violent Femms blaring & singing our hearts out! My heart just aches for you all. You are all in my heart and prayers.
