Beatrice Windisch Obituary

Beatrice Irene Windisch, 80 Feb. 11, 1927 - Aug. 8, 2007 Beatrice Irene Windisch, known as Irene to friends and family, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 in Colfax, Wash. Irene was born in Kettle Falls, Wash. to James and Beatrice (Reed) Alldredge. The oldest of three, Irene was close to her sisters Frankie and Patty. Irene attended elementary school in Spokane, Wash. and later graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. While roller-skating with her dear friend, Florence, Irene met a sailor stationed at Farragut. On Aug. 19, 1945, Irene married that sailor, Clifton Glen Windisch. Clifton and Irene had two sons and three daughters. After moving to Boise, Irene began college at the same time as her youngest child, Don. She graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor's degree in education, and later received her Master's degree as a reading specialist. Irene proceeded to teach remedial math and reading, and eventually retired from Wilder School District. Passionate about the education of young people, Irene continued to read to grade school students in Boise as well as volunteering as a storyteller at the Boise library. Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling to several countries and all of the states in the United States, doing puzzles, playing games (especially pinochle), and working in her garden. Her family and church were very important in her life. The member of several organizations, Irene was active in her community. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Sub Vet Wives, Veteran Affairs Volunteer Services, Wright Community Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Church Women's Fellowship. Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clifton Glen Windisch and her parents. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Shirley and Joe Kasney of Boise, Idaho, Mike and Barb Windisch of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Glenda and Norman Malenke of Phenix City, Ala., Sharon and Bob Martin of Meridian, Idaho, and Don and Jeri Windisch of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by her two sisters and their spouses, Frankie and Paul Fettig of Spokane, Wash. and Patty and David Maag of Deer Park, Wash., 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Irene will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Wright Community Congregational United Church of Christ. Memorial donations may be made to Wright Community Congregational United Church of Christ, 4821 W. Franklin, Boise, ID, 83705. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.
