Bob Mockwitz Obituary

Bob Linde Mockwitz (The Singing Car Dealer) was born in what is now known as Hollywood, California in 1921 to Albert Linde Mockwitz and Velma Jane Stansbury-Mockwitz. Bob's Mother passed away when Bob was less than a year old and he subsequently was raised by his father with the help of his grandparents, George Wilhelm Mockwitz and Theordora Flora Linde-Mockwitz. The family moved to Kenneydale, Wash. where Bob attended school and enjoyed his time with family on Lake Washington. He and his family then relocated to Boise County and his family raised farm animals, selling eggs to Albertsons during WW II. Bob attended school in Banks, Idaho moving upward rapidly in grade because of the excellent tutoring from his grandfather, who read, wrote and spoke seven languages and was learned in many areas. Bob loved to learn and as the family later moved to Rocky Canyon area, he would walk to the music store that was in downtown Boise and waited until the store owners would teach him how to play the piano. He was very determined to learn music well. He also played the guitar and sang. Toward the end of the depression years, Bob's family moved to Boise, Idaho. Here he began working on cars, and selling them. He never forgot the names of people who bought the cars and who they were. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Margaret Anne Swank and wooed her with his music and voice. They were married in 1945. Together they developed the automobile business first called Walk-in-Wheel-Out, and later the Singing Car and Trailer House Dealer and finally the Singing Car Dealer in Garden City, Idaho. Bob was one of the first used car dealers in the state. Bob was well known in the community for his radio spots that aired on several radio stations and national TV programs highlighting him. Bob was a special person and will be missed and long remembered by his family and those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Bob (Bobby) Mockwitz Jr., his mother, Velma Jane Stansbury, his father, Albert Linde Mockwitz, and Grandparents, Theodora Flora Linde-Mockwitz and George Wilhelm Mockwitz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Anne Swank-Mockwitz; three daughters, Ann (Tom) Booth, Cathy Mockwitz-English, Holly Mockwitz; one son, Ben Linde Mockwitz, 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A viewing will begin at 12 noon on Friday, June 16, 2006, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 8620 Goddard st. in Boise, Idaho. Graveside services will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.

I will always have fond memories of Bob. I remember the first time I came by to pick up his daughter for a date. I drove passed the house and had to slammed on my brakes which squeeled loudly. I thought Cathy's father (Bob) would be extremely mad at me and would refuse me to take Cathy out on a date. But he made me feel welcome, very friendly, and put me at ease. Just as I thought I dodged a bullet is when Cathy's mother came in, then I knew I was in trouble again. We ended up going on the date, and had many more dates after that.

Bob was always friendly with anyone who wanted to come by, to make a deal, or just listen to his songs. Bob would always find the best in each individual. Never talked bad about anyone. It was always fun to see how excited he was about buying and selling the cars. Always had a favor deal to offer.

My condolences go out to the family, especially Margaret! Having such a wonderful marriage is something we all could aspire to. His love will live on for ever. Bob always took great care of his wife. A great example to us all.

I offer my condolences to Bob's children. since he was a fun father to have. I remember one day when he bought an old school bus. Holly called and wanted to be picked up at school. So Bob wanted everyone climbed into the old school bus to pick her up. She was almost too embarrased to come up an climb on. Eventually she did! Everyone had a good laugh! It was fun watching Bob drive the bus.

One thing Bob always used to say. "The only time we feel bad, is when you don't come back."

Bob left allot of people feeling bad that he is gone. We will miss him, his joyful humor. We are all better people having known Bob!

I did not know Bob personally but got to know him thru his granddaughter Kathryn. She had recently sent me some pictures of him and has shared his family info with me as we both are researching the Mockwitz line. He sounded like a wonderful man and was so handsome. Please accept my sympathy to Kathryn and her family.

Sincerely, Donna

As a teenager I worked for the City of Garden City when Margaret was Mayor. I needed a new top for my mustang and Margaret said "let me talk to Bob, he can get you a discount at one of his many car connected friends". Sure enough, I got the top done for 50 bucks and never forgot this kind gesture. My condolences to Margaret and Family.

Bob was a great man. He is my Grandfather and he is missed greatly. I would call and talk to him often and looked forward to his advice, words of encouragement, his stories and his history. He was always there for me. I believe that he is watching over all of his loved ones from above and that he is happy to be with the Mother that he never really knew.
