Charles Scovel Obituary

Charles Henry ÒChuckÓ Scovel of Boise, died on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center at the age of 87. Chuck was born to Charles and Delma Avery Scovel in Meeteetse, Wyo. in 1919. He was raised in the Meeteetse area, where his family ranched. After graduation, he worked at his uncles Circle Bar Ranch near Jordan Valley. He served in the U.S. Air Force 1941-1946, spending two years in the Aleutian Islands. He was recalled during the Korean War and served at Travis AFB in California. After his discharge, he served in the Reserves and Idaho Air National Guard in Boise until 1984. From the time of his enlistment to his last days, Chuck was proud of his part in the military. Chuck moved to Boise in 1946. He worked at Idaho First National Bank, Head Office, from 1946 until his retirement in 1979. He later worked as a bank examiner for the Idaho Department of Finance. Chuck married Marie Skaar on April 1, 1950. They enjoyed 56 years, 10 months and 18 days of marriage. Nothing meant more to him than his life with his 97 (?) closest and dearest relatives. He was a banker by trade, but a cowboy at heart. Life in the mountains and wide-open spaces, especially with his family in the Owyhees, was the source of many of his happiest times. Chuck was the last of the Scovel family´s Ògreatest generationÓ and another example of those Avery genes. Chuck is survived by his wife, Marie; his children, Karen (Bill) True of Kirkland, Wash. and Dan (Kris) Scovel of Boise; his grandsons, Joseph and Tony Schaffer; his granddaughters, Daniela and Sarah Scovel, and their mother, Susan Scovel; and his additional grandchildren Denise True, Josh (Jenn) Hoffman, and Chad (Morgan) Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Because he was so proud of Dan´s and Kris´s volunteer work, the family suggests any memorials be made to Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue, 2519 E. Federal Way, Boise, ID 83705. There will be a viewing at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock, Wednesday, Feb. 21st 4 -7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 22nd at 1 p.m.

I have many fond memories of Chuck at John and Irene Tyson's ranches and Combination Ranch. He was a man with a warm smile and always took the time to listen to you. A great man that will be missed by all. My condolences to Marie, Dan, and Karen during this time.

Dearest Marie:

My Mother, Marion Martin, worked with Chuck for many years at Idaho First National. He was the kindest man and always had a smile on his face. My mother thought the world of you two. Please accept our sympathies and love. By the way, my Mom's 92 and enjoying Life Care Center of Treasure Valley.

I started my career as a relief teller at Idaho First National Bank at the age of 20 in 1972. Chuck was my "big boss" and he would walk with me outside each day as key holder and my protector as I was locked into a tiny booth in the parking lot to relieve the full time tellers for their lunch breaks. He was a very happy, smiling man and liked to laugh and started my day out with sunshine. I only worked there for a short 3 months and I am sure he would never remember me but he made an impact on my life that stayed with me.

For all the years of Hunting and all the time Charles was here or up on the Mtn. to help us with the cows, I and alot of friends he made will dearly miss him. His soft smile and cheerful chuckle will always be remembered, I'm sure his old horses Banjo and Reba are waiting for that little extra handout. It will be a great gathering for all...
