Christopher Smith Obituary
Christopher Smith
July 30, 1986 - August 22, 2023
Boise, Idaho - This is the story of Christopher Bryan Smith. Christopher was a wonderful son, brother, and man that was loved by many, and will be missed. Christopher was a talented barber, an amazing musician, connoisseur of all music, movies, comedy, literature, and above all, was a friend to many. He was loved by all who knew him whether as a neighbor, as a client at the barber shop, or as a teacher at Boise Rock School.
Christopher's story begins on July 30, 1986, when he was born in Boise, ID. He was the beloved little brother to his three older siblings. He was silly, witty, creative, and clearly a natural performer even as a little boy. He played soccer, basketball and baseball growing up and that love of sports carried on. When Christopher was 12, he got his first guitar, and the rest was history. Years of lessons led to years playing in bands around Boise. Christopher was gifted with the talent to be able to master any instrument he picked up. From guitar, to drums, to bass, to keyboards, to piano, to theremin, to autoharp, to banjo, to mandolin: He could play anything. Christopher played in several bands around Boise, such as Evils, First Borns, Junior Rocket Scientist, Dream Windows, Mozam Beaks, Braided Waves, Nom de Plume, Palm Reader, Aces & Eights, Rotten Nuisance, Unhallowed, and White Stains. He also was a solo artist. He never had a guitar far away, and when he was around a piano, he always sat down to explore a melody.
Christopher grew up in Boise attending Frontier Elementary School, Lowell Scott Middle School, and then graduated from Centennial High School in 2004. After high school Christopher went to Boise State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. After receiving his BA degree, he changed gears and pursued another career he had always thought about: Being a barber. It was at that point Christopher went to the Boise Barber College. After finishing the program, Christopher started his career at 10th Street Barber. Later, he worked at several other barber shops around town, eventually returning to 10th Street Barber, where he loved to work. He was an amazing barber and over the years developed a huge clientele. He was loved by his co-workers and customers at the shop.
In addition to his love of music Christopher also loved snowboarding, riding his bike around town, hanging out with friends and family, going out to eat, and watching any sporting event he could. He was a proud Portland Trail Blazers fan, Idaho Steelheads fan, Detroit Tigers fan, and Boise State Bronco fan. Recently Christopher was a volunteer host and was programming radio shows at KRBX Radio Boise, which was something he truly enjoyed. Christopher also loved spending time at the family's cabin in Donnelly, ID. Many of our favorite stories about Christopher came from his time at the cabin, from the cheesecake in the shoe incident to his fear/love of bats, there are so many memories from that time.
Though this story ended entirely too short, his life will continue on with the memories, stories, and unending love we have for Christopher. Loved ones that cleared the path for Christopher were his paternal grandparents, Chester and Doris Smith, and his maternal grandparents James and Lela Hansen, all of Boise. Loved ones that will miss Christopher until they meet again are his parents, Gary and Karen Smith of Meridian; his oldest sister Amanda McAuslan (Robert) and nieces Charlotte and Caitlin Agenbroad; his older brother Benjamin; his older sister Anne Davis and nephew Gabriel Davis, all of Boise, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and all of his dearest friends will miss him as well. Services will be October 2, 10am at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Meridian, ID. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to Boise Rock School or KRBX Radio Boise in Christopher's memory.
