Curtis Crosby Obituary

Curtis Duffy Crosby
1956 ~ 2013
Curtis Duffy Crosby passed away at St. Luke's Hospital, Boise, Idaho on April 28, 2013 at the age of 56. Curt is survived by his amazing wife of 24 years, Karen Lee Wilcox Crosby. They were married in Boise, Idaho.
Curt is lovingly remembered by his mother, Margaret Duffy Crosby, brother James Francis Crosby, sister, Carolyn Crosby Collins (Craig), nephews Jason Swan (Meghan) and Robert Swan, and his great nieces Abigail and Kendall Swan. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Robert Nelson Crosby.
Curt was born in Palo Alto, California at Stanford University Hospital. He was raised in Menlo Park until his family moved to Boise, Idaho in 1967. He graduated from Boise High School 1976 and then went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Drafting. Curt had a wide variety of interests and he pursued them all with enthusiasm and skill. He mastered everything he loved with ease. He was a pioneer in the world of "hot dog" (freestyle) skiing eventually earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. He spent many years skiing at Bogus Basin, Crystal Mountain and Sun Valley. He recently attended the U.S. Freestyle and Snowboard Hall of Fame in Sun Valley where he reunited with his fellow competitors. Curt was a natural marksman and earned Rookie of the Year in Trapshooting in 1984. He was a consummate fly fisherman and a lifetime hunter of both fowl and big game. He shared his love of hunting with his family and taught us all with patience how to navigate and experience the wilderness. For years he built custom fly rods which he sold all over the country. He loved the arts and was a wonderful artist from an early age. His passion for music was deep. He played both mandolin and guitar and loved the opportunity to "jam" with local talent.
In 2009, Curt and Karen were able to purchase their beloved acreage in North Central, Idaho. It was there that Curt could be with the elk, deer and wildlife everyday. He naturally made many friends and gave generously to the community.
Curt will be remembered as a patient, generous man who loved his family and friends unconditionally. Private graveside service will be held at a later date. His memory may be honored by sending a donation to the REACH Program (After School Program), P.O. Box 294, Elk City, Idaho 83525.

We were neighbors as kids and even though he was older, he was always there to give me a hand or lend advice. We've kept in touch every few years despite the distance and were able to reconnect like no time at all had passed. I'll always remember you as a true friend, Curt. One of the rare gifts in life. Our family sends our love and support to your family now. We will all miss you greatly.

I first met Curt when I was about 16 or 17. My family lived down the street from him and one day he pulled in behind me at the gas pumps of the Stinker Station and honked. He just laughed when I jumped. He got out and introduced himself. We were instant friends. That was in the late 80's. Over the years whenever we saw each other, he always had that big smile and a BIG hug for me. When I would bring one of my new babies home for my parents to see, somehow Curt knew I was home and would just walk on in to meet them. He was an amazing man and friend! I will truely miss him!!

Curt - You were the most generous and gifted friend. You were loved and you will be missed. We were best friends through our teen years and beyond. Later in life we grew apart only because life often takes you down roads that take you far from home. The last time I saw you was shortly before you married, but we tried to keep in contact. Karen, I only met you once but I knew that you completed Curt's life. I was so proud of him because his choices in life reflected his commitment to doing the right thing always. His Father, Bob, and his Mom, Marge, were about the two most influential people to me that I have ever had the benefit of knowing. Your passing, but more importantly, your life, will be with me always. I will take what you helped me become and remember your shining soul forever.

"..guess I'll set a course and go..."

I first met Curt when we moved into his neighborhood. I was a transplant for the LA area. Curt was one grade ahead of me but was always nice to me which was much welcomed since I really didn't know many people yet. I loved his sense of adventure and humor. Lost track of him when I moved out of the area but was lucky enough to see him from time to time at a well known downtown watering hole I worked at. He was so proud to introduce his bride to me. I remember thinking how happy I was for him and to see him again. My thoughts are with all of the family.
