Cyril Weldon Bastian, 82, of New Plymouth, Idaho passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in downtown Boise on February 10, 2014. Weldon was born in Alamo, Nevada to Cyril Orson and Vilda Robinson Bastian in 1931. He graduated as an accountant from Brigham Young University and worked for many years as a tax accountant for the IRS. When forced to retire for health reasons, he enthusiastically embraced raising beef cattle returning to his roots as a cattle rancher. Along with raising cattle, chickens and other farm animals, Weldon enjoyed gardening and reading. He cherished the moments he enjoyed with his family. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren teaching them about hard work and love.
Weldon is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Karen Stewart Bastian. They were married in Alamo, Nevada on March 31, 1956. Their marriage was solemnized and they were sealed together as an eternal family unit in the St George LDS temple.
Weldon was extremely devoted to and proud of his wife Karen, four children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by Cynthia and Andre Zivkovic of Nampa, Idaho; C. Thomas and Billie Marie Bastian of Las Vegas, Nevada; Camellia Dawn and Douglas Thurgood of Nampa, Idaho; and Daniel B. and Cynthia Bastian of Blairsden, California; his brother Grant Bastian; sisters Bea Stewart and Zina Johnson , as well as his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other friends. Weldon was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather who touched many lives with his service and generosity.
A public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 13 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd in Nampa. 467-7300. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Services, 15 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84150.
