Daniel Dee Dotson passed away of natural causes on the afternoon of August 1, 2016. He was born in Boise to Robert Victor Dotson and Vera Laverne Dotson on January 12, 1948, the youngest of 6.
Daniel grew up in the Boise area, graduating in 1966 as part of the first graduating class of Capital High School.
Soon after high school, Daniel joined the Army, serving 3 years, 1 of which fighting in the Vietnam war as a helicopter crew chief.
Upon returning home, Daniel met and married Linda Alice Smith in 1975. They had two children, Brian Robert Dotson in 1976 and Nicholas Andrew Dotson in 1982.
Daniel owned and operated his own commercial flooring business, though his true passion in life was whitewater rafting. For many years, Daniel spent his summers taking family and friends down the rivers of Idaho, his favorite being the Middle Fork of the Salmon. Those who joined Daniel remember his courage, skill, and determination on the river, as well as his hours of entertaining campfire stories off of it.
In front of a fire on the side of a mountain with a cold beer in hand was where Daniel felt at home, leading to a move from Boise to Cascade, Idaho in 2002. He and Linda spent 11 years in Cascade before health issues forced a move back to Boise.
Daniel fought Alzheimer's for a number of years, though never lost the ability to light up whenever his family showed up to visit. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Brian and Nicholas; his sisters: Sharon, Ilene, Irene, Bobbie, and Linda; his 2 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. All loved him dearly.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on August 22nd at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
