Daniel Koppel Obituary
June 11, 1954 - May 3, 2013
Daniel passed away in a San Diego hospital after a fifteen year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Daniel was born in Boise , Id to Howard and Kayla Goldstein Koppel. He graduated from Boise High School; then graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle. He went to work for the Stanford University Library until being stricken with M.S.
He is survived by his mother, Kayla Koppel, San Diego, Ca., his father, Howard Koppel, and wife Paula, Boise, Id., sister Deborah Koppel Mitchell (Mathew), Santa Fe, N.M., brother, Allan Koppel (Gayle), Arlington, WA,.Stepsister, Andrea Mumper, (George) and Stepbrother, Jim Livolsi, of Philadelphia, Pa., Extended family and friends.
Dan was an ardent sports-fan, a fine tennis player; gave lessons while at Stanford, also a Photographer of note. Dan was given recognition for fund raising for the M. S. Society.
Dan, always the optimist, said, "I have M.S. but M.S. doesn't have me!"
A private graveside service was held May 13th. Rabbi Dan Fink of Congregation Ahaveth Beth Israel officiated.

We're so sorry to hear about Daniel's passing. He will always be in our hearts as such a kind, sweet man. He always had such positive things to say about everything. We loved having him at Sarah's wedding. He will be greatly missed.

Dan, my good friend, you served as a constant reminder, to me and to all who came to know you, that it is possible - and of so much value - to live one's life according to the simple values of being kind to others, of seeing beauty in one's surroundings, of giving generously of oneself, of focusing on the best in others and in one's circumstances, and perhaps most importantly, of living fully in the present moment. You were one of a kind, a living "life lesson" to anyone willing to learn, and you will be greatly missed.

Dan and I worked together at Stanford for many years in the 1980's and 1990's....I will always remember what a sweet colleague he was...and his wonderful sharing of his lovely photos of flowers and his baseball card collection of which he was so proud.

I met Dan during my senior year of nursing school at Northern Arizona
University while taking an online class while living in San Diego. Dan
agreed to be my patient for this community nursing course. I met with
him weekly and my role was to advocate for him and to make sure his
living situation was safe. I learned a lot from Dan and enjoyed his
calm energy. He will be missed for sure. RIP brother.
