Darlene McMaster Obituary

Darlene Ann (Wenande) McMaster, 72, of Boise, died on Saturday, April 15, 2006, in a Boise hospital. Services will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., Boise, at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2006. Chi E Shenam Westin will be officiating. Following the service, a potluck dinner will be held at Darlene's home. Darlene was born on July 29, 1933 in Alexandria, S.D. to Roy Peter and Isabell Marie (Schleich) Wenande. She held a B.A. in psychology from Dakota Wesleyan College, Mitchell, S.D., a M.ED. in counseling from South Dakota State University, Brookings, S.D., and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D. She counseled nursing students at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D., taught English and art at Lake Benton, Minn., and worked as a school psychologist in Iowa and Idaho. Darlene loved good movies, good books and a good discussion of politics. She designed cards and did numerology. She was a human and animal rights advocate, and admired the Dhali Lama. Darlene had many admirable characteristics. She was a pistol, a spunky woman, well read, intelligent and liberal. She was such a gentle soul and what a trooper. Survivors include her daughters, Valerie Nuy (Thomas Nuy) of Marshall, Minn. and Michele (Pat) McMaster of Boise, and two grandchildren, Terry Nuy of Marshall, and April Nuy (Joseph Goodroad) of Sioux Falls, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to any animal shelters, sanctuaries, or societies.

To Darlene's family: Pat, Val, Terry and April - my thoughts and prayers are with you always.

I can't believe she's gone and I'm going to miss her so much -- her wisdom, gentleness, good humor and her wonderful, infectious laugh. I so admired her decency, her strong integrity, and her generosity of spirit. She truly did leave the world a better place than she found it.

To Darlene, I learned so much from you. I'll always be grateful for the many gifts of learning and knowledge you gave me. You're

one of the most exceptional and unique people I've ever known. I already realize that I'll never meet another person like you. That's going to make me miss you twice as much. It also makes me know that I'm twice blessed to have had such a friend. I love you ~
