David Liddle Obituary

David Harry Liddle
1949 ~ 2016
David Harry Liddle, 66, of Boise, Idaho died peacefully on June 27, 2016 with his family by his side.
Dave was born on November 7, 1949 to Harry Joseph and Margaret Robinson Liddle in Pocatello, Idaho where he grew up and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1968. Dave married Rebecca Sidell on February 1, 1969 and together they raised three sons. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government in 1973 and his Juris Doctorate (JD) degree in 1976 from the University of Idaho. He also studied psychology and instructional/performance technology. Dave's formal education continued throughout his life, driven by his love of learning and interest in the world. Throughout his professional career Dave worked primarily in the fields of law and counseling. Dave practiced law for eleven years, and his practice included criminal defense and prosecution. He was subsequently employed by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare prior to founding Dave Liddle & Associates, a facility that continues to serve substance abuse clients throughout the Treasure Valley. Throughout his life, Dave helped countless people, relying on both his professional and personal experiences, and made many dear friends along the way.
Dave's three sons and grandchildren were his greatest joy in life. He enjoyed attending their school and sports events, and never missed an opportunity to share their news and photos. Dave loved golf and was happiest on the green, often prior to sunrise. He enjoyed classical music and appreciated good food and the company of his friends and family. He had a keen intelligence which was incompatible with his Caddyshack sense humor. Dave will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends, and his staff, who are grateful to have known such a good man.
Dave is survived by his sons, James Liddle (Stephanie) and children Shaylee, Tayla, and Jaiden, of Idaho Falls; Gregory Liddle and children Brandon, Amanda and Tate, and grandchildren Karson, Araya and Beau of Boise; Justin Liddle and children Brooklyn and Ben of Boise; sister, Debra Smith (Steven) of Eagle; brother, Lonnie Liddle (Rebecca ) of Pocatello; and his childhood friend and cohort through six decades of adventure, Robert Triplett (Carole) of Prineville, Oregon. Dave was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will honor Dave at a casual sunrise service on Friday, July 8, at 7:00 a.m. at Warm Springs Golf Course at 2495 E. Warm Springs Ave., Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a David H. Liddle Memorial Fund and donations can be made at any US Bank location. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.relyeafuneralchapel.com.

Dave was there to help me when I knew I wasn't in the right place and for that I had nothing but absolute respect for the man that wanted to help many people battling life and whatever it brought to his office

Dave hired me when I was 20 and had almost no work experience. I was young and naive but he believed in me. He guided me into a field that I had come to love - he made me feel like I was important and had something to offer my community. I learned more in my years of employment there than I had in almost all of my college education. When I was ready to move on, he (reluctantly) became one of my biggest cheerleaders. On my last day of work, he wrote me one of the most heartfelt notes and gave me what he described as the "only hug I'll ever get" from him. He wasn't an outwardly affectionate human, though he had one of the biggest hearts I've ever known. Since then, I was able to snag a few more hugs from him each time I saw him. He was a good man and I will always hold space for him.

David captained our golf team for the last couple years. He was it a good golfer, a good sport, and a good friend. It is so appropriate that his memorial service should be at warm Springs GC.

Dave grew up with my brother. Many fun childhood memories with Dave. He had an adventurous life and did so well. We were proud of him. My condolences to his children and families.
