Donald Hutt Obituary

Donald Hutt
November 24, 1952 - March 23, 2015
Donald Orval Hutt, 62, of Boise, Idaho, passed away at home March 23, 2015 after a recent bout of medical conditions and a lifelong search to find peace. Don spent his last few months on Earth surrounded by enough love, support, and care to help him find the peace he spent his entire life desperately searching for.
Don, or "oh great one," as he preferred to be called by his daughter, spent his life pushing everything to the extreme. He always commented that he would rather live a full life than a long life, and, boy, did he manage that.
Hutt originally attended Boise State University on a basketball scholarship, attempting to play both football and basketball until football won him over. Hutt was the most prolific pass receiver in Boise State history, owning the school records for career receptions (189) and career touchdown catches (30) until 2010. He shared the record for touchdown catches in a season (13) with fellow Borah High grad Mike Holton until 2009.
Hutt also ranks fifth in career receiving yards (2,728) and tied for second in career 100-yard receiving games (11).
If he were writing this now, he'd also make sure to jokingly add that he did in three years what took everyone else four.
Hutt was a first-team All-American in 1973, and made the All-Big Sky first team from 1971-1973. He later went on to play professional Canadian Football for the Toronto Tiger Cats in the WFL in Hawaii, as well as ending his career with the L.A. Rams. He still stands as the #2 receiver of all-time at Boise State University. We're all certain that he will watch over the blue turf to ensure that it is well maintained to his impeccable standards.
Don was not only successful on the field, but in the business world as well. He could sell a drowning man a glass of water and made a living by making friends first and taking care of business second. He was known by all for having a personality that filled a room the minute he entered it. We all have peace in our hearts that his giant personality and even bigger laugh will continue to live on through those who were lucky enough to know him.
Regardless of his fame and fortune found on and off the field, only two things were truly important to Don, his daughter and his loved ones, in that order. Macaile was the light of Don's life and he made sure everyone he encountered knew it. Macaile used to joke that she couldn't take her dad anywhere or tell anyone her last name without someone recognizing Don as her father—something she now considers one of the greatest gifts she will ever be given. He may have been a hero on the field to those who watched him play, but he was a hero in the truest sense of the word to his little girl.
We all know that Don has created a legacy that will live on far beyond his time on this Earth, but he will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to know him every single day.
Don is survived by his daughter, Macaile, sisters, Sande (Mitch), Janice (Bob), twin brother, Ron (Judy), and youngest brother, Terry (Susan), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
We are confident that he was welcomed with open arms by his late parents, Dale and Dorothy Hutt, and baby sister, Judy. We find comfort in knowing that Don is at peace, free from suffering, and finally reunited with his favorite cat, Charisma.
This isn't goodbye, it's see you later…Daddio, Papa Bear, DH, Donny, big brother and cherished friend.
One last chant, "Hutt, Hutt, Hutt."
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. on Boise State University's campus at the Allen Noble Hall of Fame. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please find something unique to your relationship with Don to keep his legacy alive.

I knew "the huttski" , in some ways few people might have not, i gave him that nickname and a few others. I sold cars with dh and way before that i would do a few trips to lake havasu waterskiing with rick brown and don. Those adventures were classics in alot of ways . Don and i were pretty close even though we didn´t hang much in boise. Every time we would run into each other it was a celebration . I think about him and rick alot and miss them so .

I grew up on Robertson Drive and Don was the stud of the neighborhood. I'll always remember him and Terry as the bros that could play some ball! Don was one of the nicest guys I know always giving you a smile when you met him. Steve Connor & I always watched him play football and were amazed at what he did on the field! Go Hutt buddy! RIP

I have many great memories of growing up with Don and the Hutt family. Playing soccer and football in the back yard on Hummel Drive, ping pong in the basement, the pigeons. It always frustrated me that I could never tackle Don! I was too little to play football at Borah, but enjoyed being a part of the team working in the training room with Mr. Headon....taped a lot of ankles. Don was an amazing player and a great friend. My heart goes out to the Hutt family.

I met Don at the "Camp of the Conifers" held by BSU in 1971. The camp was held at Bogus Basin. He was working the basketball camp under Bus Connors. He immediately took me under his wing and helped me in ways I never had a chance to express. In the coming years he was always there for me.
Years later I was able to teach his daughter at Mountain View
High School. She was a wonderful student and person.
I will miss Don...

I just heard today of Don's passing. I grew up on Robertson drive and I was a classmate and team mate of Don and Ron from McKinley thru BSU. Don was also an avid hunter. On numerous occasions over in Notus or Parma area we would run into each other looking for birds to hunt. I also have fond memories when we played Optimist football and high school basketball trips. After college I moved to Washington and didn't have much contact with the twins. I will however cherish the times of our youth. I will be praying for the family during this loss of your loved one. Rest in peace brother.

A MAN FULL LIFE..READY TO GIVE AND TAKE 100%, ... ONE HUNDRED PRECENT OF THE TIME.

In High School we were fierce sports competitors (Nampa vs. Borah)

As friends we learned to throw back a few at the Bronco Hutt or in McCall at the Mill...Winter or Summer, snowmobiling or water skiing..or picking up the Ol' football and throwing him a long bomb, my friend "Hutt" was always ready to have some fun, pushing the envelope to max... and with a big smile say: " We've been there, done that!.. and if not, WE WILL!

His Memory will live forever in my Heart
To Don's family and Friends...
PEACE & GRACE,
Jake

Thank You Macaile,
In the obit and the radio interview, you shared some insight into your father's search for peace, meaning and purpose. Don's journey is our journey as well. His spirit lives on in your caring thoughtfulness.

P.S. Dorothy, Ron, and Don coached Terry and myself in baseball. Later on, I played City League basketball with Don and Terry. Also, thank you Ron, Judy, and Terry for making room in Terry's SUV to be able to give me a ride to the football game in Las Vegas.
Judy, you scrunched your long body into the back, so that I wouldn't have to. Awesome...And thanks for the J.D. and Coke, I owe you guys one :-)

Take Care, Hutt Family

Through-out life, there are few people, that regardless of how often you see or talk to them, hold a special place in your heart. I had not talked to Don since our 20th class reunion but always considered him a good friend. The memories of racing him in the 6th grade (and almost beating him), to the times he decorated my house for drill team competition and finally to the time he put a duck in my car. A "caged" duck can do great damage to the inside of a car but Don did the right thing, and took the car to the car wash. Heaven has gained a very special person. My sincere thoughts and prayers to all of his family, loved ones, particularly his beautiful daughter, Micaile. RIP Don, a friend always.

Rest in Peace Don. I was a pleasure knowing you when we were young in High School. Although Boise High was always chasing you in football. We did find the time to become friends. All the very best to your loving family and may they find some peace in knowing you will always watch over them. God Speed. Jerry Bridges BSU Class of 1978...

had a class with Don at BSU in around 1975. Even though he was well known as a standout football player, he was always polite and unassuming. I always thought he was a real gentleman. RIP

This man was really a awesome guy. I worked with him long ago at twin city Toyota. Never even knew he was a football player until about 9 years ago I was talking to him about my son playing ball and he then told me about him. And you correct his daughter was it he use to bring me in pictures of her beauty pageant photos to share he was very proud of her. He for sure will always be rememebered by me and not for his football it is for his kindness and his friendship over the years. He use to come see me at petersons to get parts for his car. You will truly be missed mr don hutt. Love u to the moon and back my friend.
