Doris Hawley Obituary

Doris A. Hawley
1939 - 2016
Heaven welcomed an angel on January 6, 2016 when our beloved Doris A. Hawley passed away at home, with her loving husband and twin sister by her side.
Doris was born June 2, 1939 in Emmett, ID to Wallace and Alberta Clements. She married Pat Casey on November 11, 1956 and they were blessed with two sons, Victor and Vernon. Pat passed away April 16, 1965. She married Ron Hawley on September 2, 1971 and they spent 44 wonderful years together. Doris drove school bus for the Emmett School District for 19 years and was loved by many of her students. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for over 30 years. Doris never met a stranger and was always going above and beyond to give and care for others. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and loved anything to do with hummingbirds. Although our hearts are broken and we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing she is in a better place and reunited with loved ones.
Doris is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Vernon Casey; twin sister, Donna Harrison; sisters, Winnie (Bruce) Neelands, Konnie (Keith) Book and Judy Wiseman; brother, Ron Clements; uncle, Pete Clements; and many nieces, nephews and cousins that all adored her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Casey; son, Victor; parents, Wallace and Alberta Clements; and many other loved ones.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Emmett Nazarene Church, 1144 N. Washington in Emmett, ID. Services are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
Memorials may be made in Doris's name to the American Cancer Society.

A funny memory of Aunt Dorie on this day in 2020 is that little dogs were always strongly drawn to her in a way Ive never seen with any other human. From the very first time my dog, Peanut, met Aunt Dorie he would sit on her lap facing her and just stare and stare at her face.

It was the strangest thing to watch because he doesnt feel comfortable like that with anyone except his parents yet he doesnt even look at me like that! He hung on her every word. It was obvious he could sense her kind, gentle, loving soul. I would always point it out to Dorie and we would laugh about how literally mesmerized he was by her.

She was the one person I knew I could trust to babysit my Peanut and she sure did help me out on days I was gone at college and internship over 13 hours a day.

To this day, Peanut will sniff his nose and stare out into space when I mention her name. I dont know if he remembers or if he is just responding to me saying the name of a person. But I truly believe dogs can see things we cant just like they sense things we dont. And anyone who knew Aunt Dorie knows that she radiated warmth and caring and love and kindness. I dont think she ever knew the impact she had on people nor how much she was appreciated and loved, but I do think she knows now.

We love you, Aunt Dorie!

Our deepest sympathy to all of Doris' family. She was such a great lady, always a smile on her face and that outgoing personality. She always had time to talk for a few minutes whenever you saw her and of course we would both be laughing about something when we left.

She was a babysitter for my mom and dad when we were young and I can tell you she definitely wasn't paid enough to 'watch' my brothers & sisters! She would still always ask about all of them whenever we talked.

We will be thinking of your family and hope that all the great memories you shared will help comfort you in the days to come.

Aunt/Grandma Dori,
Our lives won't be the same without you in them. You were there for all the drama performances, holidays, birthdays, and doctor visits. Some of our hardest moments in life were made easier with you by our sides. You never judged or criticized but only expressed support and unconditional love. We'll always remember the last day we spent with you laughing and having fun. We will never forget your laugh or love. Thank you for the beautiful memories, Grandma Dori, and we know that you will be watching over us.

My dear sister Doris. I miss you so much. My life will never be the same without you. You were always there for me through good, bad and sad times. We shared so much. You fought a long, hard battle and made it past your goal to live to Christmas. You were a born caregiver. Even when you were so sick you still would ask me how Keith was feeling and you worried about me. When Mom died, you helped to fill the void in my heart. Family gatherings will never be the same without you. You are now reunited with Mom, Dad, Victor, Pat, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Lorraine and so many others. I am sure you are dancing in Heaven as you are smiling and watching down on me. RIP my wonderful sister. I will love forever.

Aunt Doris I am so blessed to have had you in my life for 38 years. We had so many fun times together that I will cherish always. You were always there for me and I knew I could always count on you. Life won't be the same without you but I know you will be watching me from up above. I am so proud of you for the battle you fought and for living to see Christmas which was your goal. God Bless you, Dorie! I love and miss you.
