Dorothy James Johnson

Mother and grandmother, 87 Dorothy James Johnson of North Caldwell died on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. She was 87 years old. A funeral service will be held in the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Mrs. Johnson was born and raised in Jackson, Tenn. She worked for the Civil Service Commission in Raleigh, N.C., for several years, where she met her husband, Vernon Lee Johnson. They were married for 51 years and raised their family in Clifton and Bloomfield before moving to North Caldwell in 1964. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, where she was active in The Women's Fellowship, and was also a member of the North Caldwell Senior Citizens. Mrs. Johnson was the beloved wife of the late Vernon Lee Johnson; devoted mother of Vernon Lee Jr. and Kenneth Richard, both of North Caldwell, Anne Johnson Dumais of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Roger Edward Johnson, with his wife, Ellen, of Wayne, and loving grandmother of Brian R. Johnson. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963, would be appreciated.
