Edith Sargent Obituary

Edith Sargent 1908 - 2012 Edith Sargent, 103, of Boise, died on February 3, 2012, at a Boise care center of natural causes. Edith was born December 1, 1908, in Everett, Washington. When she was 10 days old she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wasley and. raised by them at their ranch in Pateros, Washington. She had many happy memories of those days - many involving her love of horses. One very fond memory was when she was a member of The Ada County Possettes and rode in the Snake River Stampede. Her work ethic learned at the ranch followed her all her life. She married Albert Sargent and they would reside in Centralia and Chehalis, Washington. They had six children. After Albert's death Edith moved to Idaho with her children and was one of the pioneers in the settling of Garden City, Idaho. She was a cook at numerous restaurants in Boise and Garden City. She was a wonderful cook. One special treat loved by all was her famous pasties which she prepared in huge amounts insuring plenty for everyone. She maintained her home in Garden City for over 40 years until progress, in the form of the Orchard Street extension, forced her to move. She was fortunate enough to locate to Samaritan Village Apartments where she resided for 16 years. She would later move to Samaritan Village and Healthcare nursing facility. Edith was preceded in death by her children: Charles and his wife Florence; Doris and her husband John Goode; Laura Thompson; and Kathy and her husband James McLaughlin. She is survived by two daughters, Emma Lou Williams (Ed) and Patty Corpus (Rey). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The family will always remember the special care and love she received from the wonderful staff at Boise Samaritan. Thank you all. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Morris Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Charles Spiedel officiating.

Grandma, you had an amazing life. Some of my best childhood memories were made at your house in Garden City. Climbing the cherry tree, football in the back field, swimming in the ditch, sitting at the little kid table on Thanksgiving, the cold and dark room in the back, the big feather bed in the guest room, your amazing garden and sunflowers, and the huge willow tree in the front. I could go on and on. I'll always remember that house and I'll always remember you. We love you. Lance, Lauri, Conner, Carli, Chloe (Corpus)
