I'm not sure Ed ever liked my simple poems. Still, this one is for Ed.

Ed Gellert Lives On
They say that Ed has passed away
They say he's gone forever
Yet, I've a hunch he's here to stay
For Ed was slyly clever

Ed served as my affirmer
He pumped me up with praise
So quick to squash a murmur
And help my hopes to raise

With Ed I was the very best
He'd say you are essential
And then with Ed's flamboyant zest
He'd note there's more potential

He'd push for me to claim my fame
A profile in the Journal
Wall Street would bow to learn my name
And make my flame eternal

Ed's view of friends was grand, indeed
We lucky ones felt pleasure
For he could quench our unmet need
And help us find our treasure

And though Ed's life has ended
His body dead and gone
Ed still makes me feel splendid
As I sense his soul lives on

Lunch with Ed

Going to lunch with Ed was always memorable. In the early days I'd think we might only need an hour. What was I thinking? It took much of the first hour just to learn the full life story of our server. And, then would come Ed's stories. Wonderful stories of Ed's youth; of Ed's war years; of Ed's great love and life with Audrey. With every story came smiles and lessons learned. And those were still just the warm-ups--for Ed would not let me go until he had heard, dissected and analyzed every aspect of what I was thinking, doing or thinking about doing. Plus, he wanted pictures. Pictures of the kids; of vacations; of home projectsand every picture brought out new questions. Ed just wouldn't let you gothe master of the half-day lunch. And, for this fast eating, let's-get-down-to-business kind of person, the lessons taught were wonderful.
