Eileen Cheney Obituary

Eileen Pratt Cheney passed away Saturday May 29th in her home in Ames Iowa following a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. A visitation will be on Thursday June 3rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , 2524 Hoover Avenue, Ames Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 4th at the same location, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A second visitation will also take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Eileen was born in Brigham City Utah, and grew up in Snowville Utah, Ogden Utah and Boise Idaho where she met and married her husband, Joseph G. Cheney, Jr. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband were married in the Logan Utah Temple on Sept. 12, 1975. She resided with her Husband and Children in the Boise valley until 1987, when the family moved to Salt Lake City Utah and in 1990 to Ames Iowa. Eileen is survived by her husband, four children Janna (James) Vukelich, David (Lizz) Cheney, Brian (Chelsea) Cheney, Benjamin (Stacie) Cheney; five grandchildren, Saffi, Schafer, Violet, Ethan, and Gavin; three sisters, Marie Hegland, Jean Musselman, and Annie Hamrick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ada Pratt, and a brother she never knew, Noel. Eileen loved her family and everyone who stepped into her life's circle. She radiated goodness and joy in her life with a smile and laugh that were contagious. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and had a deep loyalty and passion for her family, friends, neighbors, and for everything good and lovely. Music was a very important part of her life. She taught piano lessons (and many other life's lessons) for nearly 30 years to countless numbers of young children, teenagers and adults alike. Eileen was a lady of dignity, gentleness, and compassion, and God's love flowed freely and easily through her to others. Eileen will be remembered forever as someone who truly knew how to love, and she will be greatly missed. Funeral services are being arranged by Adam's Funeral Home. Dear Joe
The picture in the obituary radiates Eileen's goodness and beauty. That is how we remember her. Our hearts are heavy at the news of her passing. But we will ever be grateful for your sharing your feelings and testimony on "Caring Bridge." We felt your pain and your faith in Christ. To all of Eileen's family - I grew up with her in the old 2nd ward in Boise. She was a terrific person and great friend. It's been years since I've had contact with her, but I know that if I were to have seen her it would have been just like we would have never been apart. That's the kind of special person she is. She is truly a beautiful person inside and out. I have great memories of her and I know that you all will have lots of wonderful memories to comfort you until you meet her again.

Eileen,

When I started attending church in the Boise 2nd Ward, you were one of my teenage friends that made me want to try to become a better person. I will be forever grateful to you for being an amazing example and friend as I was trying to learn to know the Savior. Thank you for making such a difference in my life. Our prayers are with your family as they learn to cope with their temporal separation from you.

Jody - only a few of us can still call you that! I am so sad to hear of your loss. Your wife sounds like a perfectly wonderful woman, with many many talents - and a heart full of love for everyone! I'm sure your children and grandchildren will be a wonderful legacy in her honor - and yours. Thank Heaven we have a sure knowledge of where she is right now - and probably doing what she does best - helping and loving others! Many wishes for comfort and love - Judy Lenhardt Ricketts
