Erma Cheney Spencer Fuller

Erma Fuller Obituary

Erma Cheney Spencer Fuller Erma Cheney Spencer Fuller, passed from this life on Friday July 11, 2008 in Emmett Idaho, surrounded by many of her family members and close friends. Erma Cheney was born October 23, 1914, in Burley Idaho. She was the third of nine children of E Stoyell Cheney and Rosina Liechty Cheney. The Cheney family moved from Burley to Emmett, and that is where she met and married Frank (Francis James) Spencer. Frank and Erma were married on July 23, 1932. They lived in Emmett their entire 26 years of married life. During that time they were blessed with five children, Alene, Jim, Margaret, Phil, and Denise. Erma worked hard as a Mother, daughter, sister, friend, homemaker, seamstress, secretary, bookkeeper, and member of the Emmett Ward of the LDS Church. Erma and Denise moved to Eagle in 1965 when she married Ted Fuller. By then all of her older children were married and living elsewhere. She continued with her versatile contributions and became known for her skills as a seamstress making custom clothes and wedding dresses. Her talents allowed her to make beautiful gowns with or without patterns or modify existing clothes to fit perfectly. As a member of the Eagle Ward of the LDS church, Erma was very active with many callings and loved the church. As a citizen of Eagle, she worked hard on city efforts to enhance the community. Erma and Ted were married for 25 years before his passing in 1991. Subsequently she served two missions, one in the Washington D.C. temple, and one in the Atlanta temple before moving back to Emmett. Living her last years in Emmett, Erma continued her compassionate ways by visiting those unable to get out. She would bake and sew and run errands daily. Although eventually not being able to see well enough to do fine sewing, she made numerous quilts for grandchildren and others. She spent her final years living at Emmett Serenity Living doing what she could to make others feel as positive as possible. Preceding her in passing was her beloved husband and eternal partner, Frank Spencer, second husband Theodore Fuller, daughter Alene and her husband Mack McInally, son Jim Spencer and daughter Margaret Vickery. Surviving her are two sisters, Pearl Robison and Emily Elsberry, brother, Joe Cheney, daughter-in-law, Arlene Spencer, son-in-law, Duane Vickery, son and his wife, Phil and Lori Spencer and daughter, Denise Spencer, and her extended Fuller family. Erma has 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grand-children and 16 great-great grandchildren, and counting. Services for Erma will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 2 o'clock p.m. at the LDS Stake Center in Emmett located on Central Rd. Open viewing will be at the Potter Funeral Chapel on Main Street in Emmett on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Family members will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Erma was my Young Womens teacher in Emmett back in the day. I felt her constant concern for us. I have often wondered if we all turned out like she always prayed we would. I ran into Erma once after I had been gone from Emmett Valley for many years. She always knew who I was and we talked about old times. I truely appreciated her friendship and constant caring for us. I shall miss her greatly.

My love and prayers are with all of Erma's family and loved ones. She was such a bright and beautiful woman in my life. I loved her cheerful attitude. The last time I saw Erma was at Serenity when I was there helping with Sacrament Meeting. We sang several hymns and she smiled at me and sang all of the songs with me. I love you Erma. Thanks for your wonderful example.
