Glen Anderson Obituary

Glen Olsen Anderson, 93, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in Boise, of natural causes. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday, June 12, 2006 in the Victory View Ward of The Church of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3700 S. Maple Grove Road, Boise. Bishop Philip Darrington will officiate. A viewing will be held at the church Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at the Meridian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Glen was born April 10, 1913 at Heber City, Utah, a son of Joseph and Carrie Olsen Anderson. He was reared and attended schools in Heber City. He graduated from the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. He married Blanche Mary Stevens, Dec. 15, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. During WW II he worked at the Remington Arms Plant in Salt Lake City for several years and later worked at Geneva Steel in Orem, Utah. In 1944 he purchased his own sawmill and worked east of Camas, Utah. In 1947 Glen moved his family and sawmill to Hereford, Ore. He cut and milled lumber in the Baker City, Ore. area for several years. Later Glen went to work for the Eastern Oregon Lumber Company as their millwright and head sawyer in Baker City, Ore. The company transferred him for the summer to Salt Lake City where he designed and built one of the first pre-cut stud plants and one of the first pre-fab housing plants. In 1954 Glen and the family moved to Nampa, Idaho where Glen went into the building contractor business. In 1958 they moved to Boise. He framed and built numerous houses in the Boise valley. Glen served in the LDS Church in many positions. He was a people person and always liked to visit with others. He was a true neighbor and thoroughly enjoyed helping everyone. He could fix everything from a wrist watch to a logging truck. He was always a practical joker and enjoyed teasing his dearly-loved grandchildren. Glen is survived by his wife of 69 years, Blanche Stevens Anderson; two sons and their wives: Steven and Linda Anderson of Boise; Russell and Wendy Anderson of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; daughter-in-law Ginny Anderson of Boise; two daughters and their husbands: Verna and Archie Johnson of Boise and Carol and Curtis Vernon of Farmington, Utah; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Anderson in 2000.

Glenn was the patriarch of a wonderful family. My husband Keith and I watched and loved their family as the kids were growing up with ours. Steadfast and faithful, and always fun. I know he will be sorely missed. I'm sorry to miss the services, but I am in Harrisburg, PA on a mission. Love,

I was fortunate to have known Glen while I was in my youth. He was always friendly and kind to me. He drove me to collect fast offerings on Fast Sundays. His patient and pleasant nature during those experiences has made that a favorite memory of mine.

Glen remodeled my parents' kitchen in those days, building cabinets, etc. He did a very good job.

Though we shared the same surname we were not related. I'm grateful I had the opportunity to know Glen.

My condolences to Blanche and all of Glen's good family.

Every nephew should be blessed to have had an uncle like Glen. His antics, his laugh, his smile, the twinkle in his eye made my life in certain ways better. I thank him for the love he showed, what he taught me in his trade, the example of love and consideration he showed toward my Aunt Blanche, all things that matter for a lifetime and beyond.
