Yesterday I listened to this on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/aYhwACdRQcc?si=pv2Uz79gk3gYxQ7d

Immediately transported to the Papenfuss living room on South Eagle Road with Kathy on the upright piano and Brother Papenfuss singing. To be honest this man is okay as a bass, but Brother Oaoenfuss was magnificent. His low notes so effortless and his emotive powers superior as a singer. He was a good man with a staggering testimony of his Savior and the redemptive power of the gospel of Christ. I was fortunate to know him.

I was saddened to hear of Herb's death. He'll be in my memory as an intelligent and sweet human being with a great capacity for maintaining a sense of equanimity.

Scientifically, some may not know that Herb came out of that strong

plant physiology program at Colorado State. my condolences to the family.

We of the faculty and staff of the Department of Biology at Boise State send our condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Herb was a wonderful teacher and a great colleague. To use Herb’s own phrase, he “shoveled a lot of coal”, that is, he taught many classes and hundreds of students. His enthusiasm for biology was a motivation for many of our students.

Dear Papenfuss family,

I send our most sincere sympathy and ask blessings of peace for each of you. Brother Papenfuss is a legend in our family. Although our five boys never met him personally, they are well aware of his perfect example of scholarship, integrity and work ethic. There have been funny stories, serious stories and his sayings have intermingled with our own granddad's into one hodgepodge of wit and wisdom.

Most importantly, Brother Papenfuss' testimony of Jesus Christ and his example of faith will continue to influence everyone in our family.

Thank you for the love and care your whole family blessed our family with those years in Meridian. Your family touched ours for good and eternal friendship.

We send our love and thoughts at this time of sadness ad yet a time

of joy. Uncle Herb althou I never

called him Uncle was a person of

great compassion and we so enjoyed the few time we were able to spend with him. Will never forget our first trip to Boise and Herb taking us up to the ski run and explaining

all the plants and how the indians and pioneers use them. Althou my

husband had one or two moments of

panic that we were going of the road. I had hoped to be able to come and finally meet all my cousins

or see them again as adults. Our

Lord and your faith will sustain you

thru this time. Our prayers and our

love is with you always.

Herb was a leader among men, a learned man in his religion and a believer in the family. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on.
